The wife and I currently live in ATL and I commute to my domicile, IAD. The commute out of ATL is pretty easy on UAX, DAL and AirTran considering ACA'a commuter clause. In total, there are 25 direct flights daily.

I plan to stay on the J-41 until I'm surplused which will probably happen rather soon since I'll be a junior captain. Also, I'll be on reserve the entire time, probably. I'm taking into consideration that JAX is an ACA station and we do have 4 flights daily direct IAD and none at MCO. I know ATL inside and out as far as commuting is concerned.

We are trying to settle down somwhere and would appreciate any insights or opinions commuting out of MCO or JAX. We are considering other options like moving to IAD or ORD when I transition to the jet, but the FL commute is something we can't resolve.

If you work for ACA the commute will probably not be to bad. I fly for Air Willy and I did that commute for a year or so to ORD and it was not fun. There are a many UAL in JAX and I spent way more time than I wanted to on your jumpseats. The hospitality was great but you know how comfortable that jumpseat is. Thanks but no thanks. I live in DEN now and I am always positive space in my car. BTW the station is really great in JAX, they really went that extra mile for my benefit, maybe it was the donuts I always brought them in the morning. JAX is a great place to live and housing costs aren't through the roof yet. You are going to need a boat though to really take advantage of the water. Drop me a PM if you want some more info.

I don't know about jumpseating, but nonrevving on DAL has been a bear the last two years I've been at MCO, which may lead to the J/S being occupied by those who can't get a seat in the back. With Comair closing the MCO base, there will be even more commuters out of there to CVG. I hear from my JAX friends that DAL nonrevving is great in JAX, so maybe that means the J/S is available, too.
