Commuter Hotels ATL

I am the bottom Capt in Atlanta for October. I am not fond of crash pads. Can anyone recommend a good hotel for a commuter? Preferably one with free breakfast and that won't charge me for nights I don't use.

The hotels on the south side are cheaper than the hotels on the north side. A very popular one is the quality inn. Free breakfast, decent rooms, and across the street from the Whyndam (slightly more) which has an on site bar/grill. Walking around this area is discouraged. On the north side you can walk Virginia Ave day or night. Lots of hotels and restaraunts. The is a a small gym near the Delta training center. North side hotels start at 60 bucks I think. Try both sides and see what you can live with.

The most flexible hotel I've heard of is the quality inn conference center. They wouldn't charge for 2 days if you were flying a redeye. Dif hotel from the other quality inn I mentioned. Good luck.

HI Express charges around $47, safe area but not within waking distance to anything. Van will run you to Ruby Tue, not sure about VA Ave. Sleep Inn decent, about same price, free but crap breakfast, next to Ruby Tue and other hotels close by. Do what I do, go eat the free breakfast at the Hampton across the street!

I only end up needing a place once a month, or so, so I usually use the Marriott, Westin or, in a bind, the Sheraton Gateway.

Sheraton Gateway is about $65./nt with aircrew discount. The others I listed can be had for that as well, if you know the secret Tranny handshake.

If you insist on slumming it, agreed, the Quality Inn treats pilots the best.

As for walking on Virginia Avenue at night, you probably won't get robbed, but you will definitely get panhandled . . . . and crazy crack-head cow-eye looks from the "ladies" working the street. imp:

Concur entirely, I use the Quality Inn myself. One thing to add is that when using the crew rate they don't award Choice Points, but they do have a commuter card program with every 11th night being free. So, it ends up being about $38/night, which is hard to beat, IMHO.

Btw, there is a decent Thai restaurant off of Old National Hwy that will deliver to most south-side hotels, including the Sheraton Gateway. I don't have the name, but the front desk clerks usually have their menu.

The area is OK during the day. After dark, you're expressly advised to stay inside.

The girls walking up and down old national parkway are very friendly, always saying hello and asking if they can do anything for you : )

If the company put you in the Quality Inn, you would scream bloody murder. The place is bad, and in a horrible area. I've stayed there, and finally gave up after the guard shot the guy in the front lot. There's a Holiday Inn Express by Camp Creek Parkway that is pretty new, and has food options that you can walk to safely. The big names, Marriott, Sheraton, Doubletree all used to have some sort of AT rate.

Life's too short to save $20 staying at a dump like the Quality Inn. The staff and van drivers were always very nice, FWIW.
