Heard CA adding 7 more flights a day out of ALB. Does anyone know if they will be hiring soon?

According to management they are actually overstaffed. They pulled four airplanes off line last winter, and only brought two back. Even with the increased flying.

They added the 5th bank to Albany. They've been talking about it for a while. Who knows what's next.

As Insatiable points out, we are indeed overstaffed. (More than HALF of the captains in Albany--20 of the 38--must do a week of reserve each. That's definitely overstaffed, but management says they don't want to furlough again. Yeah, I know, but that's what I heard.)

Anyway, the extra flying is taking place of the sitting-around-unpaid-for-3-hours every afternoon that we do right now. So it's unfortunately not a need for new people, just finally some work for the people they're already paying to do it.

CA1900,

If ca was to hire soon, what's the upgrade time like, what are the chances of getting ALB, and how long on reserve?

As CA1900 put it:

No, we are not hiring.

Jetlag:

Upgrade is anybodys guess. I have seen it range from as low as six months, to as high as a two and a half years in the short time I have been here. The lasy upgrade class upgraded at exactly one year, but that was in May, and they aren't even full captains yet (CQF). Even if they were to run a class next week they would be a year and three months. But no upgrades, and no new hires, are happening in the foreseeable future.

In the last class, CLE was senior - with nobody getting it, followed by Albany - which most got, then ROC and PLB.

Nobody sits reserve exclusively. You will most definately have to do at least six days every bid (out of 16 days of work), and in some cases even 12. But you will get between 4 and 10 flying events every bid. How long it lasts is of course depending on hiring. I think some F/Os who have been here since December are still having to do reserve.

Hope that helps.

Let me get this straight... PLB is now the JUNIOR base? Three years ago, there was no way for a Jr. Cap to hold that as a base. When I upgraded, I was almost definitely going to have to go to the likes of SYR and wait forever to get Da Burg... But then they showed me the right seat again, so it was all irrelevant. :)

Sorry, should clarify that a bit.

In the last new hire class, PLB went junior. Still impossible to get as a captain.

Understood.

Oh, how I do miss Plattsburgh. :)
