After the recent events in California, I thought we'd had enough of the "flames"....

But don't worry, someone will answer your question if you are serious.

That leads me to believe they treat their employees like horse crap in every other respect as well, but I thought I’d ask.

Why do you equate pay with employer treatment? Does paying employees well mean excellent employee/employer relations? I don't think one has much to do with the other.

i actually have two good friends there at the moment and they are quite happy with the company.......yeah, it's no place to stay forever, but they love it now and its a step towards the next job

No its not Flame bait and yes, I'd expect to have a lousy work environment to go with the 18K a year pay check. That’s less than I make as a CFI. Obviously the two are not ALWAYS correlated, so that’s why I'm asking.

Flame bait would be.... I'm thinking of going to Gulfstream academy. My dad who was a scab for Eastern is paying for it. Then I'm going to volunteer to fly for free for Mesa. I don't ever need to get paid, so long as I get in a jet. Also, pilots are over paid, George Bush is gay, so was Jesus.

Now, back to to Commutair, anyone actually work there?

and yes, I'd expect to have a lousy work environment to go with the 18K a year pay check.

I guess since your expectations of the company are so low, you would be wasting your time, as well as Commutair's, to even apply.

Ditto the above. Not everyone thinks that making great money equals happiness... I DID work there and I had the best time of my professional piloting career in the process.

And, for the record (and this is aimed at people who might REALLY want to go to CommutAir), I made far more than $18k/yr. as an FO. The guarantee alone is 1000hrs/yr, and what with flying over guarantee, cash trips, minimum duty day pay, on-time bonuses, occasional per diem, etc. I made out well enough considering the hourly pay. At least that was my experience two years ago, the state of the company NOW is something a current employee would have to share with you.

But... It is my distinct impression that you don't really care what the real answer is, you just wanted to get in a dig. When your "question" about the company is not even a question at all but a self-fulfilling prophecy (Your question is easily translated as "I'm sure this company sucks, anyone want to back me up?"), the question doesn't really bear any closer examination.

Nice try with the comeback, though, Foobar. I enjoyed watching it fall flat.

You guys are dopes, really, I was just asking about the company. Let me re-phrase the question. How is working at commutair?

It seems everything has been positive. Thats what I wanted to know.

Now THAT is flame bait!!

ill bite this big fat one, (i know people there)

commutair is an absolute stand-up class act. their pay is low. thats correct. THEY FLY THE B1900 ! its just about the smallest regional PROP plane out there. what do you expect? jet rates to fly it? (insert foot into mouth for other flames to follow) the work rules are good, the people are good, they work with you not against you. they help you out if they can. top notch company. their pay is dictated by the industry and its current standard. change the standard out there and their pay will most likely go up.

PAY does not equal quality of work....period! isn't it feasable to have an absolute blast at work and still not get paid much? by golly it is. ive met several security guards during this most recent furlough that are absolutely happy with the work they do and wouldnt change what they do for just any other job, even though their pay is less than what an FO makes anywhere (except gulfstream)

you need to change your pre-conceptions about a company till you actually get to meet the people and talk with them. if you get an interview with them, then that notion you have in your head about Commutair will come out and shine in their face as a big reason not to hire you.

what is a smaller regional a/c, than a be1900??

Anyone remember the short-lived Beech 1300? Yes, it really existed. It was a King Air 200 with a belly cargo pod and outfitted with 13 passenger seats. Mesa ran a few back in the 80's.

I worked at commutair for about 8 months, had to leave cause I couldn't pay my bills on the pay. But I can say that they are a very good outfit. Mx, Training is great, they are a close family and then there's the X-MAS party!!! Wow, never seen more drunkin pilots in one room... Awesome!!!

I work for CA.

things I like:

1-we're a small company
2-we don't bid lines, but individual trips, making for more variety and chance to fly with lots of different people during the bid
3-company treats us well

things I don't:

1-our antiquated bidding process (each pilot is telephoned individually to bid-it takes forever)
2-the pay...BUT... as mentioned, it's a 1900! it only generates so much revenue

all in all, it's good and a fine place to be. no one wants to stay here forever, but it is a start to something bigger, better, blah blah......

J-31 Dimensions:

Wingspan: 52'
Length: 47 1.5"
Engines: Garret TPE331-10UG (flat rated to 900shp) LOUD!!!
MTOW: 15,212

NO EFIS, NO GPS, NO Prop synch, NO Yaw Damper, and of course, NO AUTO pilot.

Has a wider fuselage, 2 X1 seating and standup cabin (up to 6').
Although the entry door is in the rear, which is a pain inthe rear. As well as the baggage storage. Underneath the aircraft or in the aft baggage, so you have to wait until everyone is off to start unloading.

It's British...all I have to say about that.

Thank you for the info on Cummutair, thats what I was looking for. I'll probably apply but I doubt I'll get an interview and I doubt I'd move across the country for 18K

Sounds like it could be a good place to work though.
