Any current Commutair pilots care to share their observations of the company?

Pay?

Benefins? (Insurance, pass travel, etc.)

Crew Domiciles?

Union/Collective Bargaining?

I have an upcoming interview and could not find much on the internet as other regionals.

A friend works there - there's no training contract and he's only been there a month and has applications in at other regionals. That should tell you something.

Congrats dog. I haven't been to work lately so this is the first I have heard about your news. When is your interview?

Hello,
I can't speak for Commutair, but generally speaking any of the 1900 operators are a tough row to hoe. Great flying, good crews, experience and all of that, but it is more like a rite of passage than a destination for most people. I'm sure that there are exceptions, but in the Beech you fly into lots of places that most people never heard of, the airports are sometimes marginal at best (Good folks though in rural America), weather is crappy with an annoying regularity (IMC,ICE,CB,TURB), passenger reponse is surprisingly positive though ("I can't believe you guys do this everyday"...WOW, it sure was bumby on that approach", Don't they have snowplows here?...ad nauseum).
However, the experience and satisfaction you get by fully applying your skills as an instrument pilot, diplomat, shrink, CSR, priceless! Probably different take if you are a Gulfstreamer in sunny Florida.

"Hey, is that **CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED**ed turkey on the runway again?"

That was a nice response,Kaman:) Nice to see that for a change on this board.

You'll do well for flying a 1900. Pay is appropriate for the the aircraft, it's the smallest 121 plane, and the salary runs in line with that. What else can you expect? As for work rules and qol, it's not near as bad as some would tell you. In fact, I thought it was pretty good. I've moved on to a larger regional and the problems are the same. You'll get good training, great experience and the ability to tell others you're an FO/FA all in one. I just read an article in Aviation Week today that CAL is expanding 1900 flying out of CLE. Any truth to this CommutAir's folk?

I worked there for about 10 months out of Cleveland. Though many people bitched, I had a really good experience for the most part. The crews out of Cle. were really cool, the 1900 were all kept in good condition and I never had any problems with management or scheduling. The crappy part was the lousy pay, long days and crappy overnights. Great experience, good place for your intro to 121, then it's time to leave. Good luck!

Trying to get back East. Does anyone know if Henry Wurster still the contact person for HR? Thanks all,

The C

Henry is now the Director of Operations, I assume he is still a good contact. I mainly delt with Amy Recor when I did my interview/ new hire stuff. I don't know how far east you're looking to go, but there is talk of a BOS domicile.

Is Vanda gone? I loved working at Commutair! Great planes, very well-maintained, and great people! Give it a shot! Flying the Beech is a ton of fun, and teaches you a great deal! Good luck!

Thanks folks. Just broke their mins so it is time to start sending them the res. The 1900 seems like a great plane to get into the turbine world.

Just FYI for anyone interested, the BOS domicile was made official day before yesterday. I believe it'll open in September. (And hopefully it won't close 5 months later, like BDL did. :D )

Well, as long as you don't move there, it should stay open! ;)

Do other airlines honor jump seating with CA pilots? I would be coming from DCA if all goes well!

Thanks

Can I come back? Please? ;) I swear I'll be good this time!

I second what Beech-Slapped said. As long as you don't move there the base should be safe.

And BDL was open for 8 months. Fun while it lasted. I really do miss being stuck behind Allegheny, limited to 180 knots, all the way to BUF. Ah, the good ol' days!

What happened to Vanda?

Vanda went to work for Heritage Flight in BTV. She finnaly got sick of the hour and a half drive to work everyday.

Did they do away with the Non-Rev Express between PLB and BTV?

Hmm. Another HR related question. This is the first res I will have sent, so please forgive my ignorance. Who should my cover letter be addressed to with CommutAir? The website still lists the former Chief Pilot. Thanks,

C

Who's chief pilot now? Doug? Mano? Too bad Vanda left! She was the greatest!

Roger. Much obliged. It's in the mail/fax/email!

Mark Denny is now the chief pilot, Mano is the assistant chief pilot over the CLE base.

We can jumpseat on just about anyone. Only CAL and XJT in the cockpit though, company will not pay for CASS. I would guess out of DCA that the Boston base would be you best choice.
