A friend of mine said he got hired at comair and they just started a 5000 hiring bonus. Is this true? If so when do you get the money?

Hopefully not true. If they can afford 5000 dollar signing bonus, they can afford to give us all raises.

Comair is cancelling classes in January and February, but is still claiming to hire ... maybe for classes in March or April. Not quite sure how the two go hand-in-hand.

Word at the trailer is that Management approached the Union about bonuses for newhires. The Union would only agree to increases in pay for first and second year FOs and Management would have none of that. They want to be able to give bonuses only when they feel they need to so it was not to be an every newhire class any way.

The union had better agree only to increases in pay for every seat and level of longevity. Comair/Delta management created this problem by using the bankruptcy courts to reduce pay below a level that will attract and retain quality people. If, in fact, there is an issue attracting and retaining a quality workforce, there is a very simple solution to the problem...and it's not offering bonuses to the least qualified or experienced pilots available.

This never happened, rumor is all it is (according to Cory before bye bye and Fred). Just like when you here the senior guys going around with all their other rumors.

If they can convince people that going to the Comair academy or any other academy is a good idea then there should not be a problem attracting people.

I believe this just happen a week or so ago at the most and that would be after Cory left.

But then again, I'm sure you know everything.

Please tell us more about what is true or untrue at Comair.

Yep that is what the rumor is every week, you must be one of the all mightys of our company.

You probaly believe that half of a new hire class got up and left after being told they were going to JFK, it also never happened. Better yet you probaly believe whatever Soaper says.

Whatever Dude.

It's clear you have bigger problems than me and what I have to say.

Have a nice day, from a very small fish at CMR.

I am currently in lower AL finishing up my stint in the Army(will be done next month). Do you think there is any chance of making a March class or has hiring pretty much stopped?

I'm happy to get more senior with every new hire that comes in, but I have to wonder, why take the job at Comair vs. somewhere else? Certainly you could do worse, but you could also do a lot better.

Wow, I am happy to say that I am so F$$cking happy I left that place back in "06....it seems like more of a cluster ********************. now...and thats something I thought I'd never say seeing that I thought it was the worst it could get back then....I actually feel sorry for every regional crew that gives me a ride to work every other week....see the light and find a etter job I say....trust me they are out there..

I do look forward to traveling through Concs. C down in cincy every once in a while... Its way more fun as a revenue passenger..

Hopefully not true. If they can afford 5000 dollar signing bonus, they can afford to give us all raises.

Do a little math: miniscule $2 raise/hour * 80 hrs/month *12 months * 1500 pilots = $2,880,000

$2,880,000/$5,000= 576 pilots

Comair would have to hire 576 pilots for a $2 raise to be equivalent, financially. Comair doesn't need 576 pilots, nor is a $2/hr raise enough to curb attrition.

I see your what you're trying to get at but it just doesn't make sense.

Of course it doesn't make sense to give the pilots a raise, it would cost the company more money. That's why they would want to give a bonus. I don't know if Comair has really contemplated a signing bonus, but I suspect they have. There's no way the union would allow it though. Think about it.

If the company was allowed to give a bonus to new hires it would set a precedent which would allow the company to give money to whichever part of the pilot group best suites it's needs in the future. There's a reason both sides have to agree to a contract.

PS. I bet the union would allow the company to increase first year pay to $28 per hour ($5,000) if it were put in writing and made permanent.
