I have a friend that interviewed at comair a while back and got hired but is waiting for a class. Does anyone have any information on the new hire classes?

marqmarq,

Is that first hand information or something you've heard through the rumor mill grapevine?

Comair classes

Info is first hand, I'm in indoc now in a class of 6 new hires. The info on three next classes was given to us there.

Hate to say it, but new hire classes are going to slow down until the DCI growth issue is resolved. If Delta allocates next year's 70's to someone else, our hiring will stop.

Do you think that those already hired and awaiting class dates could also be in jeopardy?

November 1

Many questions could be answered by November 1. Serious additional growth or very slow growth or probably something in between.

Nov 1?

Please pardon my ignorance, but what is the signifance of Nov1?

Nov 1 is a date impossed by Delta for Comair pilots to vote in favor of concessions. Ain't gonna happen!

This is a mistake I made before I was "hired" as well. You aren't hired at Comair until you attend class. You can be flushed at any time before then. Yes, the people who have been offered employment can easily find their offer rescinded if we stop new-hire classes.

Speculation

At this time, I wouldn't worry about what you can't control. You'll just drive yourself crazy. In a couple of weeks you'll have better idea about what is going on. Keep listening and asking questions, but no one will no anything factual before November 1 and probably not then.

Yes, you are right and I knew from the interview that we were not employees until we showed up for class. I guess I phrased my question badly.
A better way to put it would be: do you think the need is already there for those who are in the pool awaiting class dates? Or are the current poolies solely for future growth, which may be tied to the issue of consessions?
Thanks again.
BTW, I hope all you guys do say no. This ain't right!

You are so right. I usually have a lot more tolerance for ambiguity, but the stakes are so high.
I think I'll go have a cold one.

Well, this is a guess, but an educated guess.

I'm scheduled to upgrade to CR7 FO next February (pushed back from next Jan). I'm upgrading to fill an aircraft delivery in March. My replacement (a new-hire for the CRJ) should start training in November (according to the standard training timeline).

Establishment planning told me that if the 70 deliveries get cancelled for 2004, my upgrade bid will be cancelled and I'll stay in the 50. So not only will there be no need for me to upgrade, or for any future new-hire classes, the guys trained in Nov and Dec will be excess.

That's not to say that Comair can't use the folks from the Nov/Dec classes, even without the CR7 deliveries, but it does mean that I wouldn't expect any additional new-hire classes for a while.

In any case, it's totally out of your (and my) hands, so just say your prayers and hope for the best. If it's any consolation, I really hope you get to come on board here, it's a great outfit.

Thanks skid,
I appreciate your sentiments. In any case, whatever happens I hope you guys don't take a raw deal. I'll be proud to be there sometime.

What happened?

Wow! This thread went from benign to complete pessimism pretty quick. Here is to hoping those of us with class dates hear something soon. Cheers!

I didn't mean to sound pessimistic. On the contrary, I'm quite optimistic, albeit frustrated. I just wanted to get some idea of the best guess of those on the inside about how things might play out.
Inquiring minds want to know.

Skiddriver,

I think there will be more CR7s in your future, but Dalpa will ask for other things---like no more furloughs or some recalls etc. But, I think we all know that Delta wants more 70 seaters, they will just have to trade something for them--it's called negotiations.

Bye Bye--General Lee:rolleyes:

I certainly did not intend it to sound as if I was pointing fingers there, I logged on to check the update of class date progressions and all of a sudden my class date is in jeopardy. About as much fun as a swift kick in the.............you know.
