When did the Air Force change the regulation reguarding Color Vision?

I know before the reg change that, if you failed the PIP (Plate test) you would then take the Night Vision test (FALANT, I believe). But since the reg change, if you fail the PIP test initially, you're done, no UPT for you.

Secondly, has anyone ever found out about any waivers that were given for color vision.

Thanks

I don't know about the air force but I have experienced the FAA firsthand.

There are several "alternative" tests that are acceptable to the FAA. When I took a military physical (and failed the Ishihara "plate" test), they gave me what's call the "Farsworth Lantern Test" which some call "FALANT". I passed that.

I sent a nice letter to Dr. Silberman at the FAA with a copy of my Army physical with the words "FALANT PASS" written on it and the good Dr. Silberman sent me a letter to the effect I had passed an acceptable alternative test and only need present that letter to the Aviation Medical Examiner each time I get an FAA Medical Exam.

It's basically a lifetime exemption from the Ishihara test and good for a First Class Medical.

Hope this helps.
