Hey, I'm a current college student, I have a few questions:

What are the better fractionals out there.
What is the difference between airline and fractional flying.
What is the difference between corporate and fractional flying.
Is it true that fractionals/corp do not like to hire 121 guys?
What are the hours that fractionals hire at and is a 4 year degree required?

52 Posts and you still don't know how to do a SEARCH?

1. NJ,FO,FJ,CS...to name a few
2. Night and day
3. Night and day
4. No
5. No

To elaborate....

1 - NetJets (I'm biased though)....also Flight Options, Citation Shares, FlexJet... are the largest for "business jet" aircraft. There are fractional programs at all levels.
2 - For a "dumbed-down" definition of a fractional company: It's kind of like buying a timeshare in a condo. You own part of a plane, but so do some other people/companies. The way it really works is that someone buys into a particular fleet or make/model and they can actually fly on multiple tail numbers within that fleet. The fraction of the whole aircraft you buy equates to the number of hours you can fly in a year. So, owners (customers/passengers), buy into an aircraft and also pay a monthly management fee and an occupied hourly fee. It's basically paying a lot to own a personal business jet that you don't have to worry about having to manage - that's what the company does for you. The company arranges maintenance, crewing the aircraft, ordering your catering, arranging your ground transportation at your arrival airport, etc...
4 - Not necessarily true. I've *heard* it helps to have prior 2 crew experience and I know a lot of guys and gals who come to NJ from the airlines for any # of reasons (one of those being that 60 is the mandatory retirement age for 121 operators, whereas that is not the case in the fractional world).
5 - NetJets Aviation mins are: ATP, 1st Class Medical, 2500TT, 500 multi, 500 instrument. MUCH higher is competitive, but I've seen a few good people in with just over the mins. I can't remember about the 4 yr degree, but I would assume it is preferred at minimum.

Do you want us to write the paper for you also??? It is called research.

CX880, I'm SURE Fozzy wishes by now that he could take back that cutting, sarcastic, uninformed remark. I'm sure he's remembered by now that much research is done online these days. Good luck to you and please don't take his remarks as characteristic of the professional pilots the rest of us are.

no really do you want us to write the paper too?

CX880, just spend a few hours browsing through the regional pages of everyone pistin and moanin and it shouldn't take long to figure out the night and day difference between the beginning of an airline career and a fractional career.

Just curious, where you go to college?

Princeton. Well these are broad questions and a seach didn't do me any good. Plus I don't have time to look at all the posts see if any thing comes up. If everybody just searched what will you guys have to talk about?

Too important

Why do you guys take yourselves so seriously on here? The guy asked a simple question. Isn't this a discussion board? Whats the big deal? If you don't want to answer just don't answer... Its like this is some secret club and you have to earn your rights to post here and if you post the wrong thing it may inconvenience someone. LOL. You are all not really that important.
