Continental Airlines Announces New Nonstop Service Between Los Angeles and Three Mexico Destinations
Monday October 4, 1:30 pm ET

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 4 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Continental Airlines (NYSE: CAL - News) announced it will begin daily nonstop service on Dec. 16 between Los Angeles International Airport and three Mexican destinations -- Aguascalientes, Leon-Guanajuato, and Morelia -- pending government approval. Continental will be the only airline with daily non-stop service from Los Angeles to these three cities throughout the year.

The new Los Angeles-Mexico flights complements Continental's existing service to these markets from Houston, Texas. Continental serves 28 Mexican destinations -- more than any other U.S. airline.

"We are pleased to continue our commitment to Mexico by offering these new non-stop flights from Los Angeles," said Pete Garcia, Staff Vice President, Latin America, Continental Airlines. "Our nonstop flights will facilitate travel for Los Angeles-area passengers visiting family and friends in Mexico, as well as passengers conducting business there." Tentative flight schedules are: From To Departs Arrives Los Angeles Aguascalientes 1:10 a.m. 6:15 a.m. Aguascalientes Los Angeles 8:15 p.m. 9:45 p.m. Mo/We/Th/Su 7:30 a.m. 8:55 a.m. We/Sa/Su Los Angeles Leon-Guanajuato 12:45 a.m. 6:00 a.m. Leon-Guanajuato Los Angeles 7:00 a.m. 8:45 a.m. Mo/Tu/Th/Fr 8:10 p.m. 9:55 p.m. Tu/Fr/Sa Los Angeles Morelia 3:30 p.m. 8:55 p.m. Morelia Los Angeles 8:30 p.m. 10:20 p.m.

The Continental schedule will complement existing SkyTeam partner Aeromexico service between both Aguascalientes and Leon-Guanajuato and Los Angeles.

Continental Express will utilize the 50-passenger Embraer regional jet on its nonstop service on each of the new routes. The RJs feature a fully equipped galley, a spacious lavatory, and a comfortable interior with only window and aisle seating.

2 allnighters on RJs---gotta love it! Tequilla shots all around (after you land in Mexico at 6 am---then throw up at noon) I think the Morelia flight is in the afternooon. Thank Gawd!

You obviously haven't done allnighters to Mexico. But, a little LA flying might be appealing.

I wouldn't be surprised if COEX offered more flights out of LAX soon with the huge Latino population there. Someone once told me that there are more people in LA County from El Salvador than there are in El Salvador...

Mesa/AWA is already trying to exploit the huge hispanic population with many new CRJ-900 flights to Mexico from LAX. I would hope that COEX would consider getting EMB-170/190 aircraft in the future for these types of flights - makes a lot of sense given the profit potential...

P.S. Hey General - "Allnighters" is not one word.

Which Embraer has a 'spacious lav, fully equiped galley'??? Does that mean full meals???
Boy I want to see that one!!!

I won't comment on our "fully equipped galley" (which doesn't have an oven by the way), but I will say that our lavs are much bigger than the CRJ lav as well as the first class lav on a 737 (the other lavs are bigger).

Yea Schwartz, get back to work!:D Slacker

I gotta get that retro check for my Christmas presents.
Hah!!!

You'll get nothing and like it.

J/K I remember last years' January visa bill was quite amazing so retro would be nice, the upgrade won't hurt either.

can you say "city of interest" for coex...um xjt or whatever gordon decides to call it this week!!! Big rumor is LAX mini hub is a possiblity...coex is hiring more crew support to to hopefully get geared up for it!!!! we will see

More rumors:

CAL recalls are getting shifted to CLE 737 FO rather than EWR or IAH or GUM. It seems that CAL is gearing up CLE in response to the changes in PIT and a possible Delta bankruptcy down in CVG.

Nova,

A possible Delta bankruptcy would do NOTHING at CVG. We won't leave there, and in turn it would wipe off $7 billion in debt right away, making it easier to operate. Your rumor about CO getting stronger at CLE just because of a possible DL Chap 11 filing is way off.

General,

He didn't say only Delta, he also mentioned U's reduced presence in PIT, which is only 100 miles away.

boxjockey,

I was responding to his Delta remark. I can see an absence in PIT as an advantage to CO, but not a DL Chap 11. It would make us stronger because we would wipe away most of our crippling debt. The only bad thing is a bad credit rating for years, but CO seems to have done fine.

All this Mexico flying....

Why did I take four years of French in high school???

Well at least some rumors come true...this one took less than a year....

Now about that offer to buy Airtran....

I wouldn't expect DL to leave CVG but it could effect the industry landscape in OH.
