Cockpit conversions

Besides the MD-10, have there been any programs to convert a three man crew to a two man cockpit? I heard they were thinking of something for the DC-8 and the 727, but thats all I heard.

Isn't the A300-600 a two-man cockpit? Does that count?

Not really, cause it came from the factory like that. I'm looking to see if there is any aftermarket conversions, along the same line as the MD-10.

I heard that boeing was going to do something like that on the 727. They were going to make it a 2-man crew. They extend the landing gear handle so the FE can reach it and then get rid of the FO since he doesn't do anything anyway.

DC8

Canada was succesfull with the DC8. The FO's seat had tracks where it can slide back and forth to the panel. These DC8s where never allowed to fly into the US. We had 2 of them a while back before we had our parking party. They still had some hydraulic gauges on the FO panel after they were converted back to 3 men crew. Interesting enough for all the talk about getting rid of the FO it was the switch biatch (sorry I mean the engineer) that they got rid off.

Involves a length of broomstick handle and some duct tape, as I recall.....
