I've read a few threads about the DCA program and am interested in hearing the current gouge on this program from the USCG guys. My commitment is up in Dec and this is one of the options I'm considering. No problem meeting the requirements for Fixed-Wing, but I'll reach 10 yrs service in Jun '09. Emailed the recruiter in my area for words, just waiting for a response. I'm mostly interested in the HC-130 community.

When do the boards meet?
Is someone with a fighter background competetive?

Thanks!

I'm interested in the DCA as well. I have heard that you lose a pay grade during the transition. I spoke with a Coastie the other day that said they are looking for a good amount of people to transfer. I'm going to contact a recruiter, but I haven't got around to it yet. I still have about a year left on my contract with the Navy.

This will get you started on the right track: http://www.gocoastguard.com/find-your-fit/officer-opportunities/programs/direct-commission-programs

to try and answer some of the questions (although I don't have all the answers.

I don't really know how competive a fighter background will make you but you won't be competitive if you don't try. It is definitely worth the shot.

If you are a commissioned pilot (warrant pilots are different) you will come into the Coast Guard as an O-2 whether you are an O-2 or O-5 in your current service.

The DCA program is alive and well and we are always looking for pilots so give it a shot.

Good luck

Thanks for the info sardaddy! Sounds like there is a board in the not too distant future also...so I plan to give it a shot. Do you know how often they hold the boards?

The drop in rank isn't such a big deal for me, as I'd rather have an interesting job than a little extra money. Change can be a good thing...

Take care!

I post a large majority of the information on the DCA program at APTAP as well. There is good info all over.
