Is a CL-65 type good for the challenger? So a regional guy could fly the corporate challenger? Thanks

No the Challenger line (601/604) are both separate type ratings. CL65 type will allow you to fly the CRJseries and the CL800 series (converted CRJs in corporate configurations).

Thanks! The corporate world is a hole different game. On another note I heard there is a great need for Global Express pilots. If one was to get a type you could contract yourself out pretty easy?

Without time in type(500 hours or so, generally), a type rating is pretty much useless. You may find a rare exception...but don't count on it.

I'd be surprised if you couldn't type in a 601 or 604 out of a recurrent or modified recurrent since you're experienced in the CL65. I would inquire if FSI, SF, or BAS has a transition course..I suspect they do. That would save you big bucks vs. a full initial.

I was called a while back for an interview flying 604's based on my CL65 type rating and due to the understanding of the employer that the A/C were "essentially the same."

From what I understand that line of thinking, although perhaps correct, is fairly rare in the corporate world.

I second that, last year I was being considered to instruct on the Challenger 604 at bombardier b/c I had CRJ200 experience. It's pretty much the same damn thing, just some differences. But the cockpit layout is pretty much the same. But didnt get the job b/c of the lack of ATP

Go knock out that ATP.
as a matter of fact, I turn 23 this following month....I'm looking forward to that for sure!!

Ahhh...it's been a bunch of years since I took it. I take it you can't take it early anymore? I seem to remember something about that.

nope, apparently they did away with that. I wanted to take it last year when I got my lear type but nope, didnt happen. I just really cant wait to get it, atleast my Lear PIC will be worth something now....hehehe....the last year has felt like 5 years b/c of that damn ATP. Had very good offers back home, but got turned down every time after they realized I didnt have an ATP....still have good contacts though

Yeah, now that I think about it, I seem to remember the FAA doing away with the waivers....

that's ok...it's the contacts you have that are the key, so you'll be fine.

Having been thru type course on the entire Challenger line - including the CL65 - I would say that you could easily type in a 604 out of a recurrent if you do a little studying ahead of time but if you're looking for the CL600 type (good for the 600 and 601) then do a whole initial - the 600(especially) and the 601 are vastly different than the CRJ.

CL604 type

flyerjosh is right on with his answer, in order to be typed in the CL604 you need to do a initial full cl604 type rating............... if you are typed in a cl604 flight safety has a cl600 / cl601 transition course ............. thats it as far as i can tell.

For what's it is worth I certainly would want someone with a purely regional jet background to go through the full intitial. For example, I see the Limited gang coming in to and out of TEB all of the time. Might be the same aircraft but the operational environment is two different things.

Doesn't matter, I highly doubt that you'd get FlightSafety or Bombardier to go along with a short transition w/ type course and no operator would have you trained this way either.

"The Limited gang"? What are their colors? Do they have to publicly diss someone's fashion sense to become a member? I could go on for hours... ;) TC

Yes, they are the ones that run around with Victoria Secret panties tied around their heads. You've probably seen a few of them running around your boss's malls. Initiation means pinching Gizelle's a$$ as she gets on board the aircraft for fashion week. I hear she's got a wicked uppercut. Nothing more embarrasing (or exciting) than getting your butt kicked by a supermodel !

:D

My life on this board is going to be miserable now that Mobie's gotten to you...

that is the same crap with the 1900 and the king 350 same plane but the FAA changed the course so now it is a different type, I was robbed of a type!@#$^&*(()

Cheese--It depends on WHY the PB model kicked your a$$. ;) TC
