The boss is talking about trading are Lear 35 for a CJ3. Any info on a cj3 good or bad pleas.

I offer no experience, but I can't WAIT for our CJ2+ to show up Q1'09...it'll be quite the step up from our old C-II. I understand there is a bit of a wait for a new CJ2+/3 these days, upwards of 2 years...and used aircraft are in high demand.

Here is (just a little) info I was told by a CJ3 operator...

FL450 - 410 TAS/ 780 pph
FL410 - 415 TAS/ 850 pph
FL350 - 415 TAS/ 1100 pph
FL310 - 420 TAS/ 1400 pph

1200 lbs for the 1st hour and 900 lbs after that.

Climb to 410 in ~18 minutes; any segment over a hour you can easily file for FL430/450.

I don't know much about Lears but I'm pretty comfortable in saying anything made by Cessna that isn't a 750 will probably be slower than a Lear.

That said, I'd almost guarantee it'll be cheaper to operate than an old Lear, both in terms of fuel and maintenance. We had a 2+ operator recently tell us his hourly DOCs were the same as his previous King Air 200. It'll also have much more advanced avionics; the ProLine21 system provides amazing situational awareness (integrated Jepp charts on the MFD, XM NEXRAD) compared to an older airframe.

The CJ3 might even have better runway numbers and/or climb better than the LR35, I don't know.

Wish the boss would have gone with the 3 instead of the 2+, I guess we'll just have to settle...;)
 
Cj3 is pretty sweet. It may take some time getting used to the Pro Line 21 and the autopilot with VNAV. You most likely wont want to go back to anything else once you learn it.

It wont take any time to get used to the FADEC. Other than reducing power at cruise and desent they are almost autothrottles.

Overwing fueling. You wont like that. Unless the Lear35 had that. Single point would be nice for quick turns.

Other than not getting there quite as fast I'm sure you'll be very happy.

Make sure you sign up for everything cessna has to offer in terms of MX programs. Pro Parts is one I can't remember the engine deal they have. Cessna MX is great, unless you want the plane down for MX so you can take a day off.
 
The CJ3 is my favorite Citation to fly. It has loads of excess thrust, will climb staight to FL450 at gross, and cruise at redline (.74M) at any temp (in fact you have to keep the throttles backed off to avoid the beeper). It will burn about 820 lb/hr in the 40s at redline.

The brakes are impressive. You can land at max landing weight on as little as 3000', 3500' if it's wet.

These numbers are right on for the CJ3.

We have flew 400 hours last year with minimal issues, (replaced door seal twice due to tears, ram air mod valve, rerigged defog valve). The warranty for vendor items is only 1 year, and we started to have issues at the 14month mark with the above items. However, establish a good relationship with the local Service Center & Field Rep, as they can help you out tremendously. Any issues with anything, contact the Field Rep as there will be a paper trail started.

Overall, great Plane. The more I look what is out there, the happier I am with the CJ3.
