I saw this on the philly news last night and found it hard to believe that someone would try to land (what I think is a CJ2+ or CJ3) at Bader Field (KAIY), with the longest runway only 2948'. The pilot reported a break failure on landing and no one was injured in the accident. The plane was coming over from Norway for a "convention" of some sort, yeah they have that gamblers convention like every fricken day. I would think that this length of runway might have been a tad bit short for a CJ3, I don't fly corporate so I'm not really sure. Is there any Cessna jet jocks out there that could shead some light on this that would be greatly appreciated.
There was also a guy that shot a home video of the plane sitting half submerged, when one of the engines started spooling up on its own. The plane just kinda spun around stationary from what the video showed.

I can shed some light on it.

Almost every accident the CJ series has had involved an owner/operator trying to land on too short of a runway.

It is a very reliable airplane. The CJ2 has very effective brakes, but they might appear to be ineffective by someone with not much experience in type.

I can't figure why you'd go there (even if it was legal and within aircraft numbers), rather than going 10 miles west into ACY, with a 10,000'.

In my experience flying a CJ2 with an owner/pilot, they tend to have get-there-itis and don't really think about the big picture nor do they seem to look into the details either. If this guy was coming in from Norway, maybe he thought runway length was in meters!!

Looking into the landing distances for a CJ2, the book says below a landing weight of 11,000lbs and a max temp of 25C, its theoretically possible - abeit stupid. Takeoff distance would be 2920' at the same weight & temp. Again these are book numbers - you think an owner pilot will get book numbers on their best day? Most likely not even close in my experience!!

ARPT CLSD INDEFLY TO CAT B-C-D-E ACFT; EXCEPT STOL & ROTORCRAFT; UNDER FAR PART 97.3.
RY 04 CLSD FOR LANDINGS INDEFLY.
RY 22 CLSD FOR TAKEOFFS INDEFLY.
ARPT CLSD TO JET ACFT.

I think he screwed up!

LJ45,

I'm currently flying a 31 for a guy who's thinking of trading in on a 45 or Excel. What do you see as the trade offs between the 31 and 45? Have any idea the direct operating expenses between the two? How's the OEM support for the aircraft & dispatch rate? How's the takeoff performance relative to the 31?

Thanks

The only trade off is the autopilot is not as good!

More fuel, faster crusie, more room, Much better potty, more baggag...etc +++++
