So I am taking my first type ride in the Citation Encore at Flight Safety. I am also doing the ATP at the same time. Been about six years since I flew a jet and then it was as SIC (only about 300 hours).

Anyone been there, done that who can offer some advice? I have the books and am studying but am curious about how much I need to bone up on ATP stuff or should I concentrate on the aircraft?

Also, I am going to FSI alone. Any idea if they will pair me up with someone else? If so, how does that work?

Appreciate the help!

Don't worry about the ATP stuff, just know the limitations and memory items and you'll be way ahead of most in your class. They will pair you up with someone else.

PM me with any questions. I just did this same thing in a lear a few months ago.

Know limitations, memory items (abnormal and emergency procedures), and annunciator lights when you get there. Get the rest in class.

They will pair you up with someone else. If anything happens to your partner, they'll probably put an FSI instructor in the sim with you.

I agree with Catbert, know your limitations, memory items and annunciators and you will be in great shape. The type rating ride is an ATP ride basically by default, so you do not need to be concerned with any of the ATP items.

Haven't been to FSI for a type in the last ten years, but with nine type ratings under the belt, sticking to the above regime seems to work the best.

Most importantly, don't get bogged down with studying so much that you forget to have some down time. Get away from FSI at least once a week and find something non aviation to do in order to not become super saturated (burned out)

Have fun

I did my ATP ride with a type ride also. All type rides are to ATP standards so dont really worry to much about the ATP. One thing that I had during my ATP?type ride is that the examiner went over the things that I got wrong on my written so you might want to have a idea of what you got wrong. he might have only done that becuase I had the FAA sitting in on the check ride. FSI has good instructers you will be fine and remember just have fun and take some time for yourself. You dont need to know how to build the airplane just how to fly it!!!! memory items and limitations before you go to school and you will be way ahead of the game

You paid your money....your good to go. :)

Seriously...they are not in the business of failing people. They will make sure you are up to standards. You will get your type and ATP.

What questions about the ATP side of things could someone expect in the oral? Do they prepare you for it or are you on your own as far as that is concerned.

With any luck at all I will be headed there soon and I don’t have an ATP.

None.

Just the same ole stuff that every other (already ATP'ed) pilot has to do every type ride.

Oral
Limitations
Memory Items
Performance
Systems

Sim
Just fly the profiles and relax.

Peace of Cake Brother.

Not one question asked in regard to ATP...Well maybe working up performance for the check ride could fall in line... Pull out the cockpit poster and study all the switches...all annuciatiors..know all limitations and memory items.

fly the airplane and relax

I did it, one big thing to remember. YOUR A PAYING CUSTOMER, its a business, you dont have to build it to know it for FSI. Good people
