First off let me say that this sight is a great addition to the important tools of trade in my chosen life. Thank you. This is my 1st post being in need for some information that you all may be able to help with. I'm 34 years old, born and raised in NYC, got a great job (architectural estimator) and wife and a little one on the way. I'm a licensed dispatcher and should be finished with my CFI/II this summer. My wife and I have been talking about making a move to cincinnati in about a year to a year and a half from now. What I would like some input on is how the CFI / pilot job market is out there as well as the need for any additional FBO's (FBO was also something wifee and I have spoken about). Any input would help as far as FBO's, airports, student demand, etc..
Thanks

Why would you want to move to Cincinnati? :D

Seriously though, if you're going to do that, Delta AirElite does a great job at CVG, but I'm all for competition in the work place. If you're going FBO, I'd think CVG, but then again I'm not sure how much traffic they get. When I've been there it was me when I got there and a Caravan on the ramp when I left an hour later.

I hear good things about Lunken and I think there's a Millionair on the field there....maybe a Signature...I can't remember.

Best advice I'd say would be to call around, check out airnav.com and ask the FBO's if they do training, etc (for your CFI/II).

I think Ameriflight operates out of Lunken...or maybe they used to...or maybe that was CLE...honestly don't know about that one, but I'm sure there's a 135 cargo op in that area you could get on with.

Hope that helped...

Let's see....not much to do at CVG unless you are airline or with Air Elite....at LUK there are 2 flight schools (I think) right now...there is a Million Air and Midwest Jet Center.....Kroger, P&G, Federated, Cintas, Exec Jet and Great American Financial are based there (amongst others)....then on the outside loop.....I67 is Harrison on the west side of town, ISZ is Blue Ash in the north central area, HAO is Hamilton on the northwest side, I69 is Clermont County out on the east side....if you live on the north side of town then you have easy access to I68 (Lebanon-Warren Country) and MWO (Middletown)....you can even start getting into the Dayton area pretty easily....all of those fields have at least one FBO and flight school on the field.....ISZ and HAO might have some small 135 ops (LUK does for sure) and all fields have multiple part 91 operators....now I'm not sure why you're choosing Cincy but it is a nice town...I was born, raised and still live there...as cliche as it sounds it's a big town with plenty to do but there is a definite small town feel to it.....I'm sure I didn't answer all of your questions as well as I could have but fire some more off or PM me if you want and I can give some more details

Faa

If your interested in the FAA route. The CVG (lunken) FSDO is hiring now for a an inspector in Dispatch. Starting pay somewhere around 50k-60k. just search jobs.faa.gov search under "non-federal employees". Also if your thinking of moving to the kentucky side stay away from florence. It's getting too crowded with not enough road capacity to handle all the growth. good luck. I lived, went to school, and worked in CVG area since 1992 so let me know if you have any questions, I'd be happy to answer...

Ameriflight operates out of CVG, but has a pure turbine fleet there and there are no entry-level pilot positions there. If you are going to start an FBO, CVG could use another FBO, but I think it would be very costly, since it's a such large airport.

Good luck in Cincinnati!
