Can someone shed some light on this for me?

A friend of mine was talking with two CHQ pilots recently and they told him that LGA was being closed as a crew base. They would still fly in and out of there, just that the domicile would be closed.

I really hope this is just a rumor because LGA is a big reason why I want to apply there when they start hiring. I'm currently with a 121 carrier on the EMB but I would give that up to be closer to home.

Thanks guy's you always seem to have the answers.

It seems a little bit foolish to change 121 regional jobs simply for a base that gets you closer to home. It would be one thing to take a job with UAL in ORD or DAL in ATL, but the regional level is too uneven to expect a base to stay open forever.

It would suck to switch jobs, lose your seniority, and then lose the base and be forced to commute once again.

Just my opinion though..

I agree

You know, I totally agree with you........only who knows what the future is going to be like. If I have to retire at a regional at least I'll have the lifestyle I want.

On the other hand what if I do get there and the majors start hiring again and CHQ decides a year down the road to close LGA...than I'm screwed. Crappy pay and low 121 time (due to shifting carriers) and no chance at getting to upgrade due to seniority. Hmmm........That lifestyle doesn't seem any better.

Well, just some stuff for me to think about I guess.

Chprpilot....thanks for your input.

I've heard nothing about LGA closing. The base that's always rumored to be closing is RIC, but it's seems unlikely anytime soon. Are you with TSA now?

I wonder if you're not confusing CHQ with ACA. They have BOS and LGA crew bases (on the Dornier) and are closing (if it hasn't already closed, haven't talked to my ACA buddy in a few weeks) LGA, but will continue the flying from there out of the BOS and CVG domiciles. I know the companies are very different, but the "rumor" you mention is exactly what ACA's doing at LGA.

Last I spoke to a good friend of mine flying for CHQ there were no rumors of base closures. FWA closed and PIT soon will for them with the Saabs going away, which will leave seven jet bases .... BOS, LGA, PHL, CMH, IND, STL, and RIC. MCO opens in November. Those are the only base rumors I've heard.

Tailwinds, y'all ...

It also looks as if MCO will be very junior. You probably will get stuck there as a new hire. I don't know about you, but I wouldn't want to commute to MCO from anywhere. I'd stay where you are now.
