Chautauqua representatives recently visited Delta Connection Academy looking to recruit pilots with less than their current minimums. They said they would like to interview any CFI with more then 400 hrs. of dual given, preferably (but not mandatory) with at least 800 TT.

Previously, mins for the academy guys were 1000 TT, 100 ME, and 800 dual given. Standard mins, I believe, are 1200/200.

Most of the CFI's in this category do not yet have an MEI and average multi time is probably 20-30 hrs.

Why would they do this? I have to think they have enough resumes on file to fit their hiring needs without lowering their minimums. I know their growth is going to be rapid, but does this strike anyone else as being a little strange?

They've had trouble keeping realitively high time folks around for more than a year. Believe it or not, the market is starting to pick up, and some people are leaving for other jobs. In most cases these are lateral moves based on commuting or wage issues, rather than dissatifaction with the company.

The company is growing, and all in all is a pretty good place to work. I'm pretty sure they've extended the training bond to all new hires, not just ones with less than 2500 tt, which was the case less than a year ago.

Anyone that get hired there now can consider himself pretty lucky.

Ace,

You couldn't be MORE WRONG.
Have you seen the adverstisement for Delta Connec Academy?
All DCI carriers have an agreement to hire/interview CFI's from the school. It is part if the DCI deal.
Nothing more, nothing less

I think the deal at DCA is you must have 800 hours dual given and 100 hours of multi to interview with Comair or Chautauqua.

However, in a recent interview class from DCA at Chautauqua none of the eight that interviewed were hired. I probably know at least a dozen of these "low time" pilots that did not get ther job.

Although Chautauqua may hire from this pool of instructors, I do not think they lower their standards in favor of a 400 hour pilot. Most do not make it to the sim ride.

i believe mr. Crackshot is pretty accurate. a friend of mine left chq for another regional, he was there less than a year. any 800 hour wonder will stay for a long time. i think that is what chq is looking for.

These hours are for INTERVIEWS. The CHQ absolute company minimum is 1000/100. They will be placed in the pool, much like the Purdue grads and Interns.
Once 1000/100 is achieved, a class date is offered.

Hope this helps!

Standard mims are 1500/300, I believe. Two year training contract valued at $15K, prorated if you leave before the contract is up.

Sorry if your friend didn't like it here, but you're missing the point. CHQ recruits from DCA simply because it's in our contract to fly DCI.

By the way, how many hours did your friend have? Where is he flying now?

I'm leaving, too, as soon as I get a better offer. Screw this place...I hate American codesharing... G**amned sky n*zi b*stards...

Look out, here comes Adolf the Blacknosed Reindeer.

Dot nosed sky nazis at twelve o'clock. Run.

Man I miss TWA... At least they treated us like part of the team.
