Hi All!

Bit of a strange question but.. Anyone know if a high cholesterol level might interfere with flying? ( ie. if you're using medication like lipotor, zocor or whatever )

I know of many pilots flying with high cholesterol. The FAA has approved most of the statin drugs (Mevacor, Lipitor, Zocor, Pravachol, etc.) for use while flying. Obviously treating it is better for you than letting it go.

AOPA has a pretty good database on their web site of approved and non-approved drugs. I know all four mentioned above are OK as I looked in to this myself in the last few months.

Fly safe, stay healthy ....

replace the burgers, fries, bacon and egss with tuna salad and granola.

Then you won't have to worry about it.

It may seem hard, but it really isn't. It just takes a mind adjustment and a little getting used to. There are so many healthy foods out there that are really good tasting and are excellent not only for maintaining your health but will actually reduce the cholesterol and high blood pressures in some cases. Most fishes (especially raw in the form of sushi and sashimi) are good examples, oatmeal in the morning (use a little honey or maple syrup rather than a ton of white sugar,) lean (free-range) chicken (broiled,) soy products, brown rice, fruits and veggies, and the list can keep going. Be creative and search for a healthy food you like and it will seem a lot easier. Did I mention sushi yet? Do a little exercise. It doesn't have to be a boring routine or going to the gym 3 nights a week. Take up a sport that you enjoy (such as surfing or another good active outdoor sport.) I am sure this is all obvious info and you all already know about the stuff I said above. But I challenge you to try it out for like two weeks and see how you feel. I just started eating better and being more active and it is great. It is like I have a ton more energy, I can concentrate better, I look better, and enjoy each day more than when I was living at Taco Bell Monday thru Friday and Burger King (Yuck :( )on the weekends.
