---CHINA EASTERN DEBUTS JFK-SHANGHAI FLIGHTS---
China Eastern Airlines threw a wrench into Continental's bid to win the
next China air route by launching the first nonstop New York-to-Shanghai
flight from JFK Saturday. The Shanghai-based airline has kept a low
profile over the past few months, advertising the flight primarily in
Chinese-language press and among ethnic travel agencies. One of
Continental's main selling points was that it would provide the
"much-needed" link between Shanghai and New York. But China Eastern's move
diminishes that claim.

Seems to make sense. We're all gonna need to speak that language anyway, with as much of our debt that they are buying. Pretty scary if you ask me.

Why would China Eastern would keep this on the down low? by only advertising in Chinese-language press and among ethnic travel agencies. I just don't get it.

I was curious about that as well, then I looked up what alliance they were with, I thought it was STAR, but it is actually ONE WORLD. Makes you wonder how many of these alliance carriers can get sucked into politics.
