I'm starting the Cherokee 6 checkout this weekend. Any tips on this flying Suburban? I've flown the Archer and also 182's so I think it should fly much like a BIG PA-28 Archer II.

I've owned/flown a 1979 PA32-300 for 12 years; great airplane for hauling the family around in, and it flies pretty much like any other Cherokee. A bit heavy in pitch in the flare sometimes, but other than that, just a big Cherokee.

Hualed half of a VW Beetle in one, in peices,

Heavy on the pitch sometimes in the flare, then you get the big red stall light.

Its definetely one airplane I would love to own.

Did my first hour of checkout Saturday. Holy cow, I absoultely love this airplane. What a delight to fly.

Snicker.... you think a Cherokee Six is a delight to fly? Hehe... that's a good one. Heck I used to think a 172RG was pretty cool at one point so I guess I'm no better.

Yeah most Pipers are pretty noce heavy, especially with two up front and full fuel. It helps in Senecas to put some ballast in the back so you can actually flare it.

I have quite a few hours in a Dakota (PA-28B-236) which is basically a Cherokee six with the tapered wing. Once airborne it flies like any other cherokee, just faster. The takeoffs are a breeze, just a little heavy on the back pressure to rotate. Similiarly, it is a bit nose heavy in the flare, just anticipate it and it not a problem. Have fun flying the six, it is the only piper I have flown that takes full gas, 4 adults and luggage without any problems.

Burrito, re-read your post. I hope you didn't mean to be such a jerk... nay, I'm sure of it.

Simpson, congrats on the checkout! They're a dream to fly... as long as the engine keeps running. Also, plan your descents. The bigger engine is going to require stage-cooling and all that other stuff I'm sure you'll talk about on the checkout. It's always fun to hop into a different type of aircraft and compare the pros and cons against the other aircraft you've flown. Let us know how the rest of the checkout goes.

rcsimpson,

I own a FG Saratoga - it has got a little different wing, but about the same as the SIX. Make sure as part of your check out you get to fly at max gross. It is an entierly different animal than at lighter weights.

Thanks for all the good advice. The rest of the checkout will involve systems review, some instrument approaches, etc. and also a max gross checkout. We did have 6 people aboard on Saturday but they were little people(my kiddos). The club uses sandbags/people to do the max gross checkout.

Oh yeah, Mmmmmm Burritos, no offense taken. I'm still pretty new to aviation so ANYTHING new I fly is SWEET in my eyes. Although I really do love the low wing after flying almost 140 hours in the 172.
