I did a search, but the latest information on this site I could find on Check 21 was from 2005. Now that it's 2007, have the check haulers been seeing a huge decline in business? I know that back in 2004 and 2005, everyone was saying that places like AirNet and Ram Air were doomed, but I see that they're hiring just as good as ever. Any news, or any idea what the future is going to bring for the check haulers?

Seems like it's all kind of blown over to me.

In the short term, FLX is turning down business constantly due to lack of pilots. In the mid to long term, there may be some decline, but I doubt anyone goes belly up.

At Airnet we've seen a slight decline year to year in pounds carried but that's due more to people simply writing fewer checks than Check 21. I haven't researched it too thoroughly but as I understand it the transmission equipment is expensive and hasn't proven reliable enough for large scale use. Also I think checks presented to the Federal Reserve cannot be transferred electronically. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

I think the bigger threat is fuel prices, particularly for the piston only operators. That said, I don't see any of the established check haulers going away anytime soon.

I agree; word is, 3-5 years before we all have to change plans completey.
In the meantime, I'm sure, there are going to be closing, reductions, adjustments, etc.

here is the thing with online bill payments, check 21, etc.: there still has to be a paper trail. no one in there right mind is going to trust thier profits solely to pixles on a screen. so, everytime someone pays a bill online, a paper reciept is sent from that persons bank to the payee. when check 21 is used, the actual check still needs to be sent back to the bank of origin. what does this mean? the "check" haulers will also become "reciept" haulers. until they come up with the transporter from star trek, the freight dogs will live on.
