I have seen many charterd ATA L1011's and Champion 727's fly into OMA everyonce in a while but always take a spot at the gates.

Yesterday however I saw an ERJ145 painted in the usair scheme parked at TACAIR in OMA.

Do some of these charterd airlines goto the FBOs or was he doing something else on that side? Just wierd seing an airliner parked at the FBO.

It depends...........

I've seen DL 757's at the gate flying a charter to LGA, or I have seen Comair CRJ's flying out of an FBO. I think it all depends on the type of handling equipment required. Some people charter so they don't have to deal with the hassle of the airport. One of the more interesting things I saw was when the Jets came and played the Dolphins last year, they arrived at the airport on charter busses and rode out to an airstair at the rear of the airplane. They never had to clear any security. How nice that would be! But just last week I saw an Air Canada A320 at the Jet Center in FLL bringing in a hockey team. So who the hell knows.....

I've seen some regionals parked at FBOs overnight for a lack of terminal, ramp or gate space

well omaha services there flights all the time.
dont know for sure where they fly in from. I think pittsburg.

it wasn't an over night parking spot cause it was 2pm and we have a diversion ramp for that. Just have never seen that before.

The ATA L-10's and Champion 727's you've seen at OMA are seasonal vacation charters for MLT vacations. MLT et al decides to sell tickets/packages to southern destinations (Cancun, Mazatlan, etc) out of Omaha and charters the aircraft. Since the tickets are bought by the general flying public they are required to pass through security. Also because they will arrive at a secure gate in Mexico.

Sports teams, corporations, the military and others will charter airliner sized aircraft to move a large group of people around. When it is a controlled group of people going from city to city on a pre-arranged basis the passengers are not required to pass through security, therefore, you will see these aircraft at FBO's.

well, see, that is where i got confused.

the champion 727 i saw was charterd by a group to goto the rose ball for Nebraska a little over a year ago.

they had a gate yet went to some FBO at Long Beach cause ive seen the pictures.
