Hi CFI's i just started working this month as a full time Instructor ,inspite of being busy when i got my first check i realized that i cant live on the pay , so tell me how you afford to feed yourself , please suggest some part time gigs
thanks fulcrum
The best thing I did while instructing was be frugal. I found friends that had an open room and would live there for a month or two for cheap rent. Dont go out to nice resturants and all... its amazing how much fun you can actually have for about $30 a week!
I use my "useless" two-year degree part time (the "useless" is for the people on this forum who think those of us who have two years or less of college shouldn't be professional pilots). I work at a lab when I'm not flying. I also got married, which helped a lot . Two incomes are better than one, even if put together they don't amount to much. I also use my hobby to make money on the side, which is making jewerly. I do that at night when I'm at home, and I can also take it with me on trips and do while I'm sitting in hotel rooms bored out of my mind.
But my main point was about working part time using my technical degree.
well i finally landed a partime job , as a ramp agent at a big FBO at the same airport where i teach, i have been a ramp rat before so i guess this should work out , thanks for the advice everybody.
Eat ramen, drink natural light, live 5 deep in a two bedroom, find something fun to do that is cheap like surfing or sleeping and do the best job you can and your buisness will be booming
I spent a large part of my off hours working up and sending apps and resume spam to the commuters. Riddle instructors got unlimited free sim time, so I spent many a Sunday afternoon in the sim lab shooting approaches and honing my scan. I like reading and watching TV, so I spent whatever little remaining time doing both. In those days, there were no aviation message boards - pity.
I wait tables to try and bring in extra cash. I'm not very good at it, so the money is not so good.
Spare time, eat ramen, drink Miller High Life or Red Dog (whichever is cheaper), and try to explain to my live in girlfriend that things will be different someday and that ramen actually IS one of the four food groups.
