Has anyone here done this.

I am thinking about this in the near future. I know that you can (theoretically) do one practical for one rating and it covers all of them.

I was thinking about doing the CFII. I have about 1000 dual given, but it's been about 6 years since I've instructed/flew a light airplane. I was thinking about 7 or 8 hours of dual to get me back to speed and then the practical.

Any insight would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!!

Hello,

It depends what you want to do with it, and the time and money you would like to invest. I faced the same problem about three years ago when I let my CFI expire.

First off you can take a revalidation ride with the FAA or a DE! I would obviously go with the DE (for obvious reasons).

Second, you can add a rating, not sure whether you said you had a CFII or you were looking to get a CFII. I added a MEI on to my CFII. When you a dd a rating it will automatically re-instate your previous license.

Good Luck,

And if you haven't flown GA in awhile rememeber not to start flaring at 50 feet young grasshopper.

Thanks for the response...

I already have my CFII, I just figured it would be easier to do an instrument checkride, seeing as it's all the flying I've done for a while.

Would the requalification ride be similar to an add-on rating ride, ie: not much of an oral/fom questions. Or is it more like an initial all over again?

I stupidly let my CFI expire several years ago and retook the practical test with a DE. The DE ride was much easier and laid back than the FAA rides. You can pick the ride you want and all ratings get restored.

B8,

Just like Davej said, you pick the ride. Try to find an airline guy who does them (DE). They tend to make it more like a biennial.

Good Luck,

I was in a very similar situation recently. It had been 5 years since I let my cfi/ii/mei expire. I "reinstated" it with a DE, which cost a pretty penny. I chose to retake the CFII ride to renew them all. The front of the CFII PTS shows what tasks/areas of operation are required for a reinstatement. Nothing was tested on the FOI material. Then one task was selected from the other areas, and one area had several tasks. In all it was three flights in an archer before the checkride, and it went well. The biggest slowdown was learning to operate the panel gps as they didn't have those when I quit instructing! He did ask me some very basic instrument regs/procedures for the oral. Whole ride/oral total was about two hours.
