My cfi expires in June. I've signed off 4 students for checkrides and all have passed. I've got another student who should be ready to go in about a month if all goes well. How long does it take to complete the online renewal (gliem, american flyers, etc) if I can't send this student for his ride on time? I'm worried the timing may not work out and I'll be stuck having to renew online with a minimal amout of time.

I just did mine on American Flyers....it s like 16 hrs of "study time" (the brouser open) and then an open book quiz....it took me like 3 days of turning it on and wasting the clock.....Also one time lifetime fee of $125

Heard the Gliem one...you can just take the test and no "study time".....however you have to pay every renewal

Good Luck!!!!!

Thanks. Do you have to order it ahead of time or can you just go on the website and take it at any time?

As we speak, I'm busy studying (browser open ;) ) the American Flyers FIRC. This is my 3rd or 4th renewal using the program so it's certainly been a good investment for me. It's not the best course out there, but the price is certainly right.

I don't know where you are located, but this guy holds CFI refresher clinics at several locations and never cancels a seminar...something to consider if you're going to push it to the last minute. He takes walk ins as well...

Yep that's why I like the Gleims renewal. It would drive me batty to be required to "study" for 16 hours material that I already know. I can burn through the Gleim's renewal in part of an afternoon. Well worth the $99 each time to me.

See, there's an upside to not knowing stuff!

I recently took the Gleim for my renewal and I wouldn't do it any other way. All 16 modules took less then 6 hours to complete. It's fast, easy, and you get great study guides that you can print out for later.

I don't mind paying the $100 for the convenience. And it's only every two years, so it's not that big of a deal. Being REQUIRED to sit there for 16 hours (mind you, your just "wasting the clock" and not learning the stuff anyways) doesn't appeal to me.

Yep, yep...what they ^^^ said about Gleim. Easy, don't have to sit there; just go thru real quick, leave the study guide open while you take the quizzes, and be done in a few hours. Well worth the $100 every couple years. :)
