Starting the ATC program at CCBC in a week or so and was wondering if anyone knew of FBOs looking to hire CFIs in the area. I've checked the usual websites and made phone calls, but no surprise that there isn't much available. Just wondering if anyone else had any "inside" tips.

Not that the CFI job is going to put food on the table, but every bit helps. Thanks!

Call the college, and ask which FBO's they are using for the flight program these days (it was Moore, Beaver and something else when I went through). I am pretty sure that they like CCBC students as instructors, at least they did 20  years (seems like yesterday!) ago when I went through the pilot program......

HTH and good luck!

I think that the only game at KBVI these days is Pan-Am Flight Academy, but I may be wrong. I sent a resume there, but didn't get a bite (which is probably my fault because I didn't call to follow up).

Certainly once I get there I'll be knocking on doors. Thanks for the heads up.

Anyone else know of possibilities?

I used to be one of the POI's up there and now am one of the local DPEs. Pan Am is questionable at best. Moore Aviation is OK but the owner is very old and doesn't have a lot of business. In New Castle there's Haski Aviation, at AGC there's PFTC (but the CFIs are pretty abused there) and at FWQ (Rostraver) there's Aero Executive Service that pays decent as CFI pay goes.

Any of yuns ever drink a Rolling Rock or Ying Ling or Iron City while waving yer terrible towel? How about D&G pizza in Beaver Falls?

Pilotman2105, are you from Maryland? I am going to CCBC Catonsville for the Aviation Management program. I instruct out of Phoenix Aviation at MArtin State.

Give Marty Haski a call, pretty good guy. . He also has a 135 gig going with a few Navaslow's that you may be able to get into. His instructing business took a blow when he lost the ccbc contract but last I heard he was trying to get it back. You also have Butler airport, I think they have one (or possibly two) flight schools there. If you don't mind driving a little bit then look into Columbiana county airport, small mom and pop operation, owner is a former dpe who is a great guy.

good luck,

Thanks everyone for the tips. I've been on the phone with a few of these places, but that was a couple of months ago. But I'll certainly try again.

Thanks again!

D and G's is good.............But I am partial to Al's and Buzzy's.

Anyways enough about food but the word on the street is that Beaver Aviation (aka Pan Am) is looking for instructors. Your best bet would be to stop in and drop off a resume.

Thanks. I'll be in town starting Wednesday and will plan on making a visit there.

What exactly is their name? I've heard Beaver Aviation and Pan Am thrown around some. I also heard that another FBO on the field recently went out of business (within the previous 6 months).

CFI jobs are to be had if you look hard enough.. My company has recently hired a few from BVI. You also have prospect at BVI that run's a 135 op that is usually looking for warm bodies. You could look at zelinople (sp?) then BTP for very limited CFI work or some occassional warm bodies for more 135 work.

Other than that, you have a few operators at AGC (allegheny flying club and PFTC). Rostraver, Washingon and Finleyville would be other places but now your 1 1/2 to 2 hours from BVI by car. AGC will be about 1 1/2 hours. If you really want to drive for work.. WAY always has a need but at 2+ hours, I'd pass..
Jumpers and glider towing at Grove City is an option, I think they are trying to start a flight school up there too...(45 minutes from BVI)

Being a former CFI in the area.. I can tell you jobs can be had, but they are few and far between these days. Even if you find work, unless your getting a feed from a college program, the students are few and not overly motivated.

Best of luck though...
BTW.. I did a written at Pan Am a few weeks ago.. Beautiful day and everything on the ramp and not a student to be found..

Wings in in BVI this fall.. if you don't have something by then.. be at wings and you may get lucky...
