I hope this is the correct forum for this question...

Anyway, it looks like I'll have an interview for a CFI position at a smallish flight school either this week or next. My question is whether or not I should shave my goatee. It's conservative and neatly trimmed, and I've never had a problem landing jobs with it, including sales and food serving jobs. It's mustache and chin, not the typical "chin only" thing done by other people in their early 20s.

For some-odd reason though, I feel like I should shave it for this interview, even though there are instructors there that have goatees. Any thoughts on this?

How much are they paying?

If it's a salary (and survivable), I'd shave it.

If it's hourly with not many students and the hourly pay is low, leave it.

If it's somewhere in the middle, shave the chin.

Mustache and chin seems okay to me.

I could honestly go either way on this, but I should at least ask if you're aware that most airlines require you to be clean shaven (or neatly groomed mustache at the most). I apologize if you've already heard that a million times.

As for the CFI interview, ask yourself if you think you look more professional, and more presentable, without the goatee. If the answer is yes, get rid of it. And no matter what, never do that thing where you grow a little hair right under the lip, and nothing else. Can't remember what it's called, but it looks real dumb.

$14/hour, and a solid student load. Instructors are kept very busy there with the constant influx and lack of instructors.

I definitely look more mature with it. I seriously look 17 when I'm clean shaven, which is one of the main reasons I grew it in the first place. People where I work now were surprised to find out that I really wasn't 25-26. I want to go into the interview looking like an adult rather than a snot-nosed kid fresh out of college (even if that's what I am ;)).

facial hair is not the question, DO wear a professional business casual outfit and be neat and trimmed...not applying for a job flying in a helmet and oxy mask

Thanks. I did graduate last May, so I guess I'm not FRESH out of college. Where did I go? Well, here's two hints: There ain't much besides dirt and cattle in Prescott, and I'm deferring my loan repayment for a good while. :puke:

I do intend on wearing a dress shirt with slacks and a tie. I don't have a suit, but that might be overkill for a CFI job anyway (say, any thoughts on this too?).

Those shoes with *that* tie?

absolute queer identifier patch...

Especially if you accessorize well.

And lisp.

I say go with your gut. Shave it.

Good luck either way.
