Hi,

I am interested in pursuing CFI-I rating but was wondering if anyone else have a better idea as to which school to go to.

Currently I am instrument current (50 actual, 60 simulated out of 475 TT), completed IPC back in January 2005 after almost 10 years without flying in IFR environment. Additionally, just completed CFI-I written with a good score. Given my job situation, I can only fly on weekends; therefore I would like to finish the CFII as soon as possible.

Based on what I have seen on the board, there are several choices that are available to me: Airmen Flight School (completed my initial CFI with them 6 years ago), Air Desert Pacific (I live less than 10 miles away from ADP), Sheble in Vegas, my current FBO (only 1 IFR plane though) and possibly AllATP in Riverside, CA.

As far as cost is concerned, only Airmen offered a "guaranteed" price of $1500 while ADP & Sheble has $1000 and $1800 respectively. Obviously I'd like the cost to be contained.

Appreciate any input anyone might have. :)

Seriously, though, with your background and currency, I would think that spending $1000 would be unneccessary. If you can fly instruments from the right seat and explain it as you go, you are ready for the checkride. Don't get yourself screwed here. If you have to spend a grand to get current and proficient from the right seat, that's one thing, but I wouldn't just plunk it down to start with. (I made that mistake once!)

Don't go to a formal school for a CFII rating. I made two flights and then took the checkride, all at an FBO. Probably didn't need both flights. $1000 is too much to spend on it.

Flyboy, I just pm'd you. Check the message and get back to me if you want. I'm local to you, and can do your II quicker and cheaper than ADP. I can also get you the gouge on our local examiners for the II ride. :)
