Hey all, I am considering starting my CFI/CFII in the next couple weeks, but I WILL be going to graduate school next year in an unrelated field (journalism) and it is doubtful I will have much or any time to actually instruct. Is it worth getting the CFI now and just sitting on it, or should I wait and get it once I finish graduate school?

Peter

Get it now while everythings still fresh. I got my Private and Inst while in Highschool and was able to get my CFI the day before I started College. I didn't think I'd have time to instruct with a full class load in a pretty demanding major but I've been able to get a weekend gig at a great school. Good luck with whatever you choose.

Get your ground instructor tickets now (passing a written is all it takes) and you may be able to supplement your income by teaching ground school or tutoring people before their BFRs.

Focus on grad school now -- the CFI/CFII ticket will be there when you are done, and since you are aready in the school mindset, the ground lessons should be a snap; you can buy ready made lesson plans. Just make sure you know the material.

Do both thats what I am doing working 4 days at least and going to school the others it will pay off. Just be prepare to bust your butt.

i took double the credit hours for full time grad student plus worked 3 jobs and did my CFI, CFII, and MEI....you can do it if you want to...might as well since you get all kinds of financial aid as a grad student, if you work it right you can get grad credit for you CFI-MEI
