Hello everyone, I have an acquaintance that has a Cessna 310 that is willing to let me fly his aircraft for 200.00 HR with instruction (he is a MEI). I have my multi with about 12 hrs total in a Seminole now, but I can rent a Seminole for 165.00 HR with another buddy who is also a MEI. My question is 2 fold. 1) Do you think it is better for me to fly the 310 with an instructor and eventually get my high performance sign off as well as being added to his insurance so that I can solo the aircraft or 2) do you think it would be better to fly the Seminole, which would allow me to split costs with my MEI buddy.

I would do both. It would be good to get the experience of flying a 310 (high perf., and standard props) just to do it. Plus you'll be logging dual recieved. But you could do the majority of your time in the seminole. Plus, if your MEI buddy provides instruction to you during your flights, it will be enriching for both of you and also would be loggable. You could also shoot approaches and act as safety pilot while doing instrument work.

Get as much time as you can in the 310 if its a late model like an R model it will challenge you and advance your skills much more than the Semi-hole will.

310

Fly the 310 as much as you can afford. Although you have your multi, have your MEI friend give you a thorough checkout in the 310, including Vmc demo, drag demo, and all other single-engine ops. In other words, he should almost retrain you for the rating in his airplane. You will get a lot out of this training and really learn about multi flying. The 310 is a traditional twin and has real Vmc issues, unlike the Seminole.

Good luck with your flying.

Thanks for help everyone, I will be flying the 310 on Monday for an hour or two, I have a feeling I'll be hooked on it after that.
