i coudl swear i saw a saab 340 into charleston SC the other day....in full Castle markings.....i was soaking in the sun by the pool at the Hampton (you know...the one by the wafle house) under the approach path as it flew overhead....i jumped up. and thorgh i saw the white w/blue tail and underbody that ive sen ont he castle caravans. is this just the demonstrator that ive ben hearing about for the last 2 years? or did someone flying blue on white buy em?
can anyone veriy this?
and if its true....please tell how its doing with the freight....if its breaking a bunch or not. how much it takes/speed/range/etc.

yes, they have one

yes, it was the factory demo

:)

yes indeed they do have a SAAB, I saw it about a month or two ago on their ramp. I called the office to find out what the deal was, and the lady who answered the phone said it was going to be a cargo bird. Beyond that I don't have much more info, every time I call or stop by there they tell me they are not hiring.

Rob any thoughts on where I should try and get based with your old employer if they offer me a job?? Presque Isle sounds aweful cold to me........

i have flown into CAK a couple of times to pick up freight at castle since they bought it. They say it flies 2-3 times a week. for what its worth.

However i believe they have only one crew on it right now.

I.P., I like your new paint job!

yeah im pretty sure...there was big writing on the side and no windows that i could define....but that new united scheme is slick. been seing some of our 145's in that color and they look pretty sweet...even tho the particular models are some real pieces (no reversers and small fuel capacity....no galley either) although i was by the pool when i saw the saab. did i say underbelly? (scrolls down) sure enough i did....hmm. they outta start trying to outbid "night-cargo" with those things. they could outhaul a Shorts i think. 8500 pounds right?

cool thing about a hotel under the approach path of charleston south....is that when the C5 and C17 take off over the parking lot....allt he car alarms go off :)

i wish i flew something that did that.

If their pricing for the sLaab is anything like they got on the rest of their aircraft, they won't have it long. Unless of course they suckered some poor sap into a management contract. There had been a Cargo Saab (rare) for sale a year or two ago that spent more than 18 months on the market. Other aircraft carry similar loads and are faster and/or cheaper to operate.

DING-DING-DING, we have a winner! as i understand it, the lease is up in a matter of months and is already slated to go bye-bye. castle was basically the gopher (whether they knew it or not) as a number of other cargo operators were considering utilizing the 340. as of now, the attention has been shifted to the J series as they come offline from the regionals...but you didnt hear that from me ;)
