Several companies have now been approved for CASS, which finally allows us back in the jumpseat on companies other than our own! The current list of approved carries as far as I know is: American, Eagle, Alaska, Horizon, UPS, United, United's Express Carriers. Trouble is, nobody really knows what's going on. I had a Skywest Captain deny me the jumpseat a few days ago, saying he'd never heard of CASS. Word needs to get out so we commuters can feel a little better about getting to work! (Please note: I hold Skywest guys in the highest regard, and hold no animosity towards your pilot group or airline, just so happens this is my example.)

Also, if your company is not yet on the list, call your jumpseat coordinator and make some noise! The more people who jump on this bandwagon the better!

United Express, at least AWAC, is not approved to use CASS as of yet. I believe it is still in the 6 month trial phase which only applies to ATA carriers (we are not a member). As soon as the trial is over we should be on the list, since we use the same computer system as UAL. This is probably the case with Skywest as well.

Also, once it does go into effect we will have to have our FOM revised since it currently says UAL/UAX up front only.

SkyWest is not approved to use the CASS system yet, either. As always, if we've got a seat in the back, you're welcome to it. In your case, however, that would have been the correct action on that captain's part (if you were denied the jumpseat on a full flight, that is).

Don't know how long it will take, but we're working on the CASS thing internally.

Thanx for clearing up the UEX confusion. Let me be up front about this: I hold no animosity towards the captain that denied me. It's his ship to do with as he pleases, and apparently he made the right decision. I've used AWAC, Skywest, and TSA on UEX to get to work many times and all of you were great. Come over and let us return the favor anytime.
