Does anyone know if there are any Beechjets or Diamonds flying in the cargo config? The cabin and door seems like it would be perfect, and some of the older models can be bought pretty cheap.

My guess is that mx costs/reliability would kill that thought. Plus, aren't they slow? I would think speed is a plus also.

Lears, 310s, MU2's -- thems the money makers.

*Discliamer* -- I never flew freight..

The big problem is that the FAA issued a letter that they would not approve any more STCs for Part 25 aircraft that were not in full compliance with Part 25. They grandfathered the STCs that had already been issued. Part 25 requires at least 2 useable emergency exits plus fire detection/suppression.

Back in the mid 80s FAX, the predecessor of US Check/Airnet flew a handful of brand new Diamond I's. They supposedly got a deal on them from Mitsubishi and they used them to be a fleet leader on the aircraft, getting more time and cycles than it would normally accumulate in corporate use. They only operated them for a few years then they got rid of them for Learjets, if that tells you anything on how they were working out as freighters.
