I am running a general survey on what other corp operators minimum requirements are for a command upgrade. Do you have them?

We are Operating a Falcon internationally.

Is it more common to have two captains or a captain and a Co Pilot?

If you have two capatins what minimum jet time would you require/recommend for an upgrade from first officer.

Any comments would be appreciated as we are trying to produce a company policy for our operations manual.

We operate with two captains...when a new pilot is hired he is immediately typed but retains the title as first officer for six months to a year. Once we are comfortable with his skill set ( hopefully soon) we start switching legs at the captains discretion. At the of this period he or she is promoted to captain (title) and given a raise. The reason I say two captains is we currently have no first officers but given the experience level of the pilots we hire they would all be quite capable of operating as a captain at hire if they were experienced in our types. This probationary period is really a chance to learn our internal (aviation and the companys) processes....hope this helps.

I'm happy with the skill set requirements it's the "other" stuff.

If you are a small operation should a person be kept as a co pilot who

A) Has the flying ability but

B) Does not have the operations experience - non flying duties.

I'm talking about a two pilot operation here.

2EASY i'd be interested to know your average experience of new hires - TT and Jet time - would you hire someone with no PIC on a jet?

We will be looking for a relief driver soon.

I think the real question as to his/her title should be the following:

If you are sick, have a family emergency, or on vacation what is the compacity of the other pilot? Do you a hire a contractor to be PIC or do release the airplane to the other pilot?

If you answered yes to the latter then he/she is a captain and needs to be comensated as such.

This was the logic that we used when hiring another pilot (catain BTW)

Hope this helps. Good luck.

With a 2 pilot operation NO.

If you want quality of life ... see previous post, you cannot do this with an inexpirenced pilot.

I have led programs with both, trust me, go with expirence. You and yor boss will feel much better.

Thanks for your replies folks.

For those of you who are sending me PMs. we are located in New Zealand and we would only accept a PART TIME position.

We currently have a relief driver.

When anything more permanant comes up I will certainly let you know.

I am more interested in your replies regarding my first question above.
