Hey everybody,

I'm new to the board and look forward to benefiting from the wealth of knowledge here.

I was wondering if any of you all know of any outfits that fly canceled checks in California or the west coast for that matter.

Thank you :D

Welcome Mammoth!
I'm new to the board and look forward to benefiting from the wealth of knowledge here

You will definitely learn a lot. I've learn so much by reading what's been posted here.

Ameriflight dominates the check flying business on the west coast, especially California and Oregon. Bases in Burbank, Phoenix, Oakland, Portland, Seattle, Billings, Salt Lake, Cincinnatti. Corporate headquarters in Burbank, in business 35 years. Private company, subsidiary of Armored Transport. Also do feeder flights for UPS, DHL, and ABX. 200 pilots. 175 aircraft, Lances, Navajo/Chieftains, BE99, Metroliners, BE1900, EMB120, LR35.

fraitman,

Thanks for the reply. In order to fly checks you need to qualify for 135 mins, is that right?

I'm just trying to think of flying jobs aside from instructing.

Thanks again

You can get some check flying jobs with 500 hours. That is 135 vfr minimum. Sothern Seaplanes in New Orleans and GTA in Dallas hires with VFR mins.

Mammoth, Ameriflight only will hire you if you meet 135.243c requirements for PIC IFR. 1200 hours total flight, 100 night, etc. As mentioned, there are some Part 135 operators that will hire with the 135.243b mins, requiring 500 total. Some companies will do it when there is a "pilot shortage," but may not be doing it now that there are plenty of 1200 hour pilots looking for a job. Hope you find some good leads, good luck. - Frait

welcome

Mammoth...

Welcome on board. Have you considered flying jumpers? I've heard some hire relatively low time guys, seems like it would be fun for awile - good way to build some multi time. Maybe not too many hiring now, but once it warms up it could be worth looking into.

Fraitman, the Ameriflight website looks pretty good - have you known anyone who has worked there?

fraitman and watr1,

Thanks for the welcome and information. Its really great to have a site such as this to learn from more experienced guys.

Thanks again!

Remember, checks are excellent passengers.

They never bring dogs, and they are always on time. No showing up two hours late, and acting like it's nothing.

They just sit quietly in the back, in their bags.
