I think that Compass is capped at 36 Aircraft? I want to here from someone that might know if that is true.

I have seen the Compass pilot contract and I can tell you that it was much better than Pinnacle or Mesaba's. It would have hiring pilot costs than the existing links. Plus the cost of starting up a new airline. I cant say if the rest of the operation would be more expensive.

76 seaters are scoped to 55 without Compass and 90 with Compass. I hope this is the one and only reason to start Compass. I know the plan is to sell Compass for lots of money in the future, but that doesn't seem to be the best thing for NW considering the higher costs. But apparently it is the best thing for the executive pocket books.

The media is doing a good job of saying that Compass is the place for all the new jets but I still think they are capped at 36?

I've never seen an actual contract for Compass. Only a term sheet that was included in the NWA pilots concessionary TA. The terms included on the term sheet were not that impressive and while still probably better than PCL in most regards it's not in the same league as XJ's current book. The secret to Compass's low cost will be in the low longevity of its pilot group. Furloughee's filling captain seats will get an astounding 62 bucks per hour (about $4/hour more than the average longevity Saab captain at Mesaba).

If they truely don't have a full text contract life there will surely be miserable. The term sheet has about 1/4 page worth of scheduling provisions covering only the most basic of concepts.

Compass isn't capped at any number of airplanes, just jets. That's a max of 90 jets right now and +1 for every new NWA mainline narrowbody. Personally I have absolutely no idea how they are going to find any staf for either compass or the mesaba concessions.

If they (the NWA management) they would be looking at some Q-400's and perhaps encouraging the development of a next generation high efficiency turboprop...they are too busy trying screw with their existing employees!

They will staff the AC with guys being displaced by the retiring DC9 or did I miss something else in the article?

Nice find Mesabi. This is the first time I've actually seen any reporting about what Northwest plans are. I think Northwest is starting to get backed into a corner with their future plans. They expected everything to go more smoothly than it has and have these planes in the air sooner rather than later. It's too bad the Northwest FA's, Mesaba and Pinnacle haven't bent over as quickly as they would have liked. Let the games continue! Everyone needs to hold the line on this BS.

IMO the orders have already been placed and have been kept under wraps this whole time. They did it with the 787, they can do it now. They're just waiting for the right time to make the announcement (after labor has bent over) and now they're approaching the deliveries and have no choice but to go public. Isn't it curious that this is all coming to a head at the same time? XJ, NWA FAs and this announcement? Hmmm...

ok heres what makes no sense to me and maybe you XJ or 9E guys know the answer to this. Is this kind of like a jets for jobs thing where furloughed mainline guys are gonna get priority in a 1 for 1 deal like airways did with PSA and RAH? Id heard NWA was already hacking into the furlough list and not having much luck getting guys to return as is....whose gonna want to take the kind of a pay cut...and im not trying to be offensive to the furloughed guys who had been out of a job...trust me...

They have already gone trough more than half the list to cover the few recalls that will start class, we have (Or had that is) 49 at PCL (All Captains) I don't know many of the DTW guys and gals, but the MSP folks are great people and I have befriended a lot of them, It's sort of bitter sweet to see them go. I doubt that any of them will take a job at Compass, that will pay them the same (Roughly) that they are making now, specially if the information about them going trough the entire list by early next year turns out to be correct. My guess is that Compass will hire all off the street.
My question is. Are folks off the street getting a NWA seniority number? I had the agreement but erase it

so bassicly some of these Compass pilots off the street are going to take some Sh&t from the mainline pilot group???

No. All the Compass jobs belong to the Furlough's that want's them. Now, if there are no taker (I believe they won't be, since Mainline is recalling) They'll hire off the street.

I imagine it will be just like it is with XJ and 9E. They'll have to deal with the occasional jerk that votes yes to outsourcing and then turns around and blames the regional pilot for accepting the job he created.
