This has been probably posted before, but bear with me...

How many times should one call a prospective employer (121/135 ops) after one submits a resume? Twice, thrice, none at all, every day until you get an interview? Assume there is no indication one way or the other from the employer (like a banner on the submit page to NOT call, etc).

Thanks beforehand...

I'd call and ask about more on the position. Calling the employer will tell them that you're interested/motivated and it will give you a chance to sell yourself. Try to send a followup letter/email thanking them for at least considering you for the position. As for calling them... I'd stop if I left a message after two calls.

Seth,

We asked this question last year at our HR Forum that I moderated for one of the organizations to which I belong. The common response was that you could initiate a call if the ad (assuming you are applying to an ad) does not say, "do not call."

I agree that no more than two times would be appropriate. However, that depends on if you are reaching someone. What our HR people told us was that if they call you, you should call them back. If you do not reach them, leave a message. If they do not contact you within a week, then call back again. If they still do not call back, let it drop.

One HR person said that he had a guy call him about 17 times in a 24 hour period. I think that borders on stalking! :)

By the way, the WORST days to call are Monday and Friday. On Monday, they are cleaning up the messes from the weekend and on Friday, they are just trying to get out of the office. Best day to call would be Wednesday.
