I’ve been searching the boards for a bit but can’t seem to find the answer. At CAL I know you get a CBA mandated 12 days off a month, but if you drop a trip or two for mil leave does that 12 days go up or down?

The reason I ask is at my unit long range planning is only two weeks and most flight schedules are built only 7-10 days out so it would be difficult to fully identify what days I need off the month before so it could be part of a BPS bid.

thanks

The easiest way is to wait until after your PBS award to put in your mil loa. In the contract there is a min days off with regard to your number of days of availability. Pretty crappy actually. I never put my MIL LOA in PBS. It is my schedule and I'll do what I want with it, not what PBS wants to do with it. I know the company doesn't want pilots to do this, but it is illegal to MAKE you put in your leave prior to the 9th. I have been on leave for awhile so things may have changed.

PBS has gotten better with Mil Leave. PBS still sucks, don't get me wrong. Hopefully it will be a thing of the past soon.

I usually put my ML (6 days a month) in with PBS and have been getting around 10 day lines +/-. I'm around 50%.

I filed a complaint with ESGR about an airline (with PBS) I worked for pre-911. I bid Mil Leave and they took two days off away from me.

The ESGR representative "negotiated" with the company, as this practice is illegal. I received a check for two days pay within 30 days of the complaint. The union didn't do anything for me.

Now, post-911, ESGR has a stronger bite. I wouldn't bid it, though. I would just drop it on them when the drill comes up.

Since there are not real orders for drill, have a standard form letter signed by someone who looks important on paper.

I would have my Training NCO sign one with the dates blank, that I would fill in as needed.

How do you go about filling a complaint.. or better yet, is there a process to ask questions?

I too have found that PBS has short changed me with mil leave and line guarantee for the month.. and it's worse when you're on reserve AND on first year pay!

Always~
