Continental to Post 3rd-Quarter Profit
Wednesday October 11, 12:17 pm ET Continental Says It Will Report 3rd-Quarter Profit, Updates Employees on Profit Sharing

NEW YORK (AP) -- Continental Airlines Inc. said Wednesday it will post a third-quarter profit and has built up $100 million for its employee profit-sharing plan so far this year.
The company did not give specifics for its anticipated third-quarter profit in a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission. Wall Street is expecting a quarterly profit of $1.25 per share, according to an analyst poll by Thomson Financial.
In its filing, Continental said it can't yet say how much employees will receive on Feb. 14 through their profit-sharing plan. That amount depends on the company's full-year results. Continental shares rose 13 cents to $31.91 in afternoon trading on the New York Stock Exchange.

Profit sharing? What is that?

New contract. Concessions up front, poker in the rear... sorry, couldn't resist... I guess, somewhere in the new contract, there's something about profit sharing for the pilots... I won't spend the money until my check gets cashed.

Section 3 Compensation, Part 4 Variable Compensation. Won't have to cash it. If we get profit sharing it will be direct deposit. $64M loss in the 1st quarter, $198M profit in the 2nd quarter, $111M(est) in the 3rd quarter, and if oil remains in it's current range, a profit for the 3rd quarter. Time will tell.
