Under Part 121...

What does it take to be dual qualified as CA & FO in the same type equipment at the same airline?

What would the currency requirements be? Would you have to do a PC in each seat or would satisfying the CA requirements qualify you for the FO requirements.

Any FAR references would be appreciated.

Right Seat Task Dependant Training

For a PIC to be qualified in the right seat, they must demonstrate proficiency in the right seat on their annual Proficiency check. These right seat add-on items include approaches, landing and go-arounds.

 
Ok then I have a question here. If I am right seat qualified by doing some right seat stuff (landings, approaches, V1 cuts) on my Captain annual PC, how long does the right seat qual stay valid for? In other words, can I skip the right seat stuff on my 6-month ride and still be qualified in the right seat for the full year from my annual PC?

That sounds correct, IIRC. I was dual-quall'd for about three years and I think that was how it worked.

you are correct, right seat quals are good for a year for captains who remain current. You just spend an hour in the right seat in the sim while they try to kill you.
 
The previous posts give the typical way an airline has been approved to do this. There are no specific regulations about seat dependent training. FAA internal documents and orders such as FAA Order 8400 for 121 Inspectors talks about this in general terms. Left/Right seat duties and skill requirements vary in different makes and models. As an example a B737 may have optional nose wheel steering installed for the right seat. The decision is left with your Principal Ops Inspector who is supposed to evaluate this on a case-by-case basis. Best to check your manuals or ask your management or POI to get an approval included in your manuals if needed.
