We have a prior C-21 driver in our unit and asked me about how to get his civilian type rating in the Lear. I do know you have to have an ATP and 10 hours PIC.
How do you go about getting typed via civilian?

There is a thread somewhere here talking about just this issue. So I'm sure a MIL. will chime in here.

As I recall, the FAA will issue the type rating based on his military experience and virture of the FAA recognizing the C-21 has having a non-military version (LR-35).

I suggest your C-21 driver call the local FSDO and ask what paper work s/he needs to bring in.

It should be that simple, but a quick phone call will clear it up.

Call the FSDO. Need to show the 10 hours of PIC and a valid Form 8 from within the past year.

When I was at Norton/March (90-92), I got rid of the Single-engine limitation by going to the local FSDO with the Form 8 and Logbook.

When I was at Keesler (93-97), we had to take a FAA Inspector up with us (after the written, experience, etc.) to get the ATP with a Lear type. We flew to Michigan and did a brief oral then flew around for a while. It was painless, but we had to get approval from the Wing.
