Why is reading one of these boards so addicting?

How come, most threads turn into bashing and nastiness within the first page and yet, I still keep looking at them? (ATP thread inclusive)

Sense of anonimity makes for bashing and nastiness and it's fun for some. Not really my thing though. I think that a lot of us here are low timers who aren't flying nearly as much as we would like. So coming to these boards gives us a sense of staying involved. Usually when someone just disappears it's because they got a job flying as much as they dreamed they would. Until that job comes along we're just hanging in cyberspace trying to learn how to get ahead. Many folks around here work for the regionals and are unhappy. They are stuck on stand by, reserve, between flights, etc.. and only have a laptop to play with so that explains the flood of rants that FI is famous for. Just peruse the Regional forum and it's obvious.

I think it's because you get to vent some of your frustrations, and see that other people are at least as bad off as you are.

As for that spinning spiral stair case.....WHAT ARE YOU TRYIN TO DO, KILL SOMEBODY?!?

O.K. I'm bored now........It supposed to be DNA and a stairway to heaven?? I dunno..

Hey SpyFlys what kind of consultant are you?

Well, look at the avitar :)

Cover the top railing up, and then look at it closely.
Which way is it spinning. Try it sober, it reverses directions :)

Back to topic...

I dont fit the reserve thingie, or the waiting for a job thingie either.
When I check this board, everyone seems to be a know it all. If someone challenges them, or states another oppinion, major fireworks. God forbid someone make a spelling error!
The funniest thought I have about FlightInfo is, that if 4 or 14 pilots from FlightInfo were out having an adult beverage, I doubt the acromony that shows here would do the same in person. I hope I am right about this?

It shouldn't be that hard to cite facts in a discussion, a lot of people do not, which leads to a lot of swinging at fence posts. Except for religion, politics and causal factors of plane accidents where no factual NTSB report has been released, everything else is most likely a fact that can be found somewhere. If it is a right or law, it's written down somewhere. You might have to read a supreme court case to find it, but it'll be there.

Spelling error correction by spelling police fall under two general catagories...maybe three.

a) Some jerk is flaming someone and doesn't have the intellect to hit the spell check button.

2) Joking about someone's spelling is a good segue...sometimes we need a chance to take time to chill. Nothing wrong with a good laugh.

iii) I went to make another drink, what were we talking about?

Lets do it...it's not a party until someone pukes up a an organ or three.

Reading the board is addicting to me because I really enjoy seeing responses from low time and high time pilots. I like hearing from those that have a lot more experience than I do on an issue. I also like hearing less experienced pilots experiencing things that I have in the past and giving my opinion on the subject occasionally.

Acrimony, dude. With an i. :D

Funny, here at Flifo, it always comes down to spelling and grammar; elsewhere -- Nazis.

Blame the Philly public school system!
