Buddy passes are so useless. The name should be changed to stranded passes

I had some friends buddy pass from DC to phx. what should have been a 4 hour trip turned into 28 hours and the purchase of a ticket on SWA from LAS to PHX.

their route of flight wound up being DCA-MCI-PHL-LAS-PHX.

DCA-PHX had 15 open the day before departure, MCI-PHX had 15 open 5 hours before departure. At departure time both were oversold with 5-10 stand bys.

I checked everysingle possible connection and every single flight was overbooked.

Never again.

Yep, most of the time you are right. However, some city pairs are difficult even with S2.

Nonrevving to Phoenix is damn near impossible, unless you send them through a west coast hub such as SLC, LAX or DEN.

Don't go through SLC It's always up near 90% whenever I've gone.

If you thought this job had any benefits Please let your management know, so they can figure out how to take them away.

When I was at the airlines I used to throw mine in the garbage when I recieved them. It was cheaper and less hasle to straight out buy a ticket on Southwest or some other low cost carrier.

With load factors running in the high 80 percent, why even use them. By the time you pay the fees, you might as well buy a ticket on SWA.

Now days they should be called airline food stamps.
they are usless. this is why having airline benefits now days, is like having food stamps with multiple restrictions.
Buying a ticket is the best way to go.

Buddy passes/non reving as a whole is no longer a benifit. If you are travelling alone... maybe. With your family FORGET it. The loads are too high. By the time you pay/find a hotel after being bumped off flights all day long you might as well have bought a ticket.

PS just bought my first tickets in seven years last week. Sat back had drinks with the girl, got a little frisky in 1st class and didn't have to worry about how we acted cause of my employment status. Priceless.

I nonrev everywhere and don't normally have problems. Of course I don't travel into high volume markets at high volume times, and I don't wait for the last flight of the day (except to commute home) etc.

Most of the trouble seems to arise with people trying to travel in a pack. Or, sending their "buddies" off non-reving by themselves--a potential problem for many reasons.

You shouldn't send your buddies by themselves. That was true before the capacity cuts and the increases in loads. Buddies will get you in trouble. I've documents more than a few buddy pass riders PNRs and sent them to station management.

WORD!!

Or how about "Punishment Passes". And you give them to unruly passengers who complain about their 150 dollar ticket. oh wait buddy passes cost about that much.

When I give a pass away it comes with a speech, "Yes, you can have the pass, but you have to be flexible and patient. It's entirely possible you don't get on an airplane the day you want to travel or to the destination you want to go to. You can't complain about it to anybody, because if you piss off a gate agent I lose my pass privileges which means I have to move to Kentucky and I would have to kill you. I'm a gun owner. Do you still want the passes?"
