Other than having a smaller cabin, how was the Learjet 85 any different from the Challenger 300? If Bombardier really wanted to develop the airplane they specified, they should have just done a truncated Challenger 300 derivative at far less cost and time. The Learjet 85 was doomed from the start (initial planning stage) since it was much too similar in performance to the certified Challenger 300 and lacked the speed that is the hallmark of the Learjet family. Bombardier just further bungled it by trying to go all composite and poor execution of the plan.
