A reversal of fortune at the 2005 Paris Air Show

By Dominic Gates

Seattle Times aerospace reporter

New jet news

According to an insider, Boeing may announce in Paris a previously undisclosed target date of early 2007 for entry into service of a new higher-capacity derivative of its narrow-body jet, the 737-900X. And a few Boeing customers may choose to announce orders, either for the 787 or for the new 777-200LR freighter.

Boeing is negotiating 777-freighter deals with American air-cargo hauler AtlasAir/Polar Air Cargo, Gemini Air Cargo, Southern Air and World Airways, as well as Eva Airways of Taiwan and both Emirates and Etihad of the United Arab Emirates, the insider said.

But those talks are ongoing, and no rush of Boeing orders is expected.

Some observers had thought Boeing might use the show to announce it would go ahead with the 747 Advanced, a new version of the jumbo jet that will incorporate 787 engines and luxury Sky Suites for first-class passengers on the upper deck.

Taiwan-based China Airlines is one of the airlines talking to Boeing about the 747 Advanced, in both passenger and freighter versions.

According to the Boeing insider, the company also has been negotiating deals for the freighter version with several mainland Chinese carriers, Singapore Airlines Cargo, Abu Dhabi-based carrier Etihad and Luxembourg-based Cargolux.

I was told Atlas already was the launch customer for the 777 freighter.

Actually, no, it is Air France who will be the launch customer.

P.S.- I heard that Centurion, Arrow, and Tradewinds will also be getting the 777F, delivery date March, 2063.

HAHA yeah, no kidding. I really like the part about Southern Air getting them. Maybe they will split one with Kalitta.

That's subject to change....

....that's about the time the USAF will retire the B52 and those operators will convert the Buf into a freight dog and postpone their order of the B777F another 25 years!

I think USAF will actually ask boeing to put double pods onthis new 777 and swap with the b52 this way the mechanics and crew will not fell any differences.
plus with some more engines they will probably be able to carry more load and help the future NASA starship x to compete wit Burt rutan's starship one and stop losing money to Richard Branson on space travles this will be all by 2136 with deliveries of more than thousand airplanes expected.

It's all good!

PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. (June 13, 2005) -- World Air Holdings, Inc., (NASDAQ:WLDA), has received high rankings for business performance in two annual surveys conducted by independent publications. Business Week rated World Air Holdings 12th among 10,000 publicly held companies as a “hot growth company,” and The Atlanta Journal-Constitution rated the company seventh among Georgia’s 100 top public companies for 2004.
