For educational purposes of course, does a Blackberry's email or internet capablity work at altitude? Not FL 510 but mid 20's ?

thanks

Based on... uhhh.... "friends"... no, it doesn't, at least not on AT&T. A CDMA provider (like Verizon) may work better, but at those speeds, it's not likely to work on any provider.

Yes, AT&T and T-Mobile are the GSM providers in the US. Sprint, Verizon, and Alltell (just eaten by Verizon) are CDMA.

My friend ;) hasn't had much luck over maybe 5000 feet or over 200 knots. At that point, it's pretty much a paperweight.

You may want to advise your - ah - friends that they are transmitting near electronics that could have problems depending on how shielded the cables are. Unshielded cables are called antennas and will take signals to electronics with unknown and varied results. The more electronic an aircraft is the better chance some cables are no longer shielded (ground wire broke) and the chance an unwanted electronic input will happen.

How lucky do you feel today.........
