Retired USAF Lt. Gen. Elwood “Pete” Quesada, first Administrator of the FAA personally profited from his public office at the expense of thousands of airline pilots and their families by unilaterally instituting the “Age 60 Rule.” His reward was a seat on the Board of Directors of American Airlines.

Retired USN Cdr. Randall “Duke” Cunningham, member of the House of Representatives, personally profited from his public office at the expense of the American taxpayers by steering government contracts to MZM, Inc. and ADCS, Inc. His reward was $2.4 million in cash, goods and services.

One never spent a day in jail and is buried at Arlington National Cemetery. The other may die in jail of recurring prostate cancer.

You're kidding...right?

One was a criminal who confessed to a crime. The other was a man who manipulated the system legally. As it turns out, the rule he sponsored is a good one. (Not just my opinion...but one held my a majority of pilots, the FAA, and the courts)

I know you're upset about it, but perhaps you could find an analogy within the same solar system?

You're Kidding....wrong!

Oh....I see...so your form of moral equivalence suggests that since he "manipulated" the system LEGALLY...that somehow makes it above reproach.
Also, since a majority of pilots(almost all tied involuntarily to the yoke of ALPA management),the FAA(another spotless agency) and the courts seem to agree on the age 60 rule, that makes this a good law.....riiiiiiiiiiight. Pull your head out of your balloon-knot and take a second look at the foundation of your argument.
I do agree however that Cunningham deserves his sentence.

Before the rule was established there was not limit. (Duh!) When the FAA set a limit, they chose an age was low enough to avoid having to set standards for mental ability for pilots.

Quesada's role was to take input from the pilots, managements, and others.

There is no question he did that.

In the end the rule matched what most of the airline management types wanted...not just AA.

He wasn't in the Zapruder film, and there's no evidence he was on the grassy knoll. He was as clean the former CEO of Halliburton was when they won the no-bid contracts in Iraq.

The rule works.

Ominously, there's no evidence he was not. Just sayin'.
