i would like to hear a little more about the life of pilot's flying freight internationally in 747s and such, and how you got into it. there's a lot of talk on here about the guys flying checks and stuff at night in singles and light twins but i would like to gain some insight into the "bigger" world of freight flying. i didn't realize that world really existed until a couple of years ago when i was at anchorage airport - man that was a bunch of 747s! i'm sure nowadays many of these pilots were typed and forloughed from an airline, but do these companies recruit and type pilots? how's the QOL?

747 Freighters

Look for the thread in this section titled "Kalitta Air" - it's got a lot of good information about that airline. They fly 747s internationally. There's a decent chance one of the 747s you say in Anchorage was one of theirs.
